About the Author Junji Ito debuted as a horror manga artist in 1987 with the first story in his successful Tomie series. By Schola Abstract Combining the horror art style that's used in his other work with a series of funny vignettes about his wife brining two cats into their home works far better than it has any right to. This book is hilarious and a perfect gift for anyone you know who has a cat (or whose significant other made them get one). It also has some neat extras and a few pages of questions to the author and his wife. For less than $10, this is a steal.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. hilarious, horrific, and adorable By Lenya Friesner Junji Ito is a horror manga legend, and I have loved his manga novels Uzumaki and Hellstar Remina for the incredible art that oozes discomfort and paranoia. When I discovered that an English translation of his autobiographical Cat Diary was available, I pounced on it right away! I'm a cat lady for sure, with two cats of my own, and Junji Ito perfectly captures the combination of adoration and frustration that comes with owning these adorable pets! This manga had me shrieking with laughter more than any other comic I have ever read, any cat person will be able to relate to Junji Ito and his fiancee as they incorporate their two kitties into their new house. I also thoroughly enjoyed that even though the subject matter is not particularly horrific (aside from stepping into cat poop and watching cats take over your life), Junji Ito maintains his horror aesthetic throughout this manga with demented visuals. The combination of cute and creepy is a winning juxtaposition for me - I can't stop recommending this manga to anyone who will listen, even via social media! If you like cats, or know someone who likes cats, you NEED this book in your life.

A Slice-of-Life Comedy by Japan's Best-Known Horror Mangaka By Cedric Before becoming a mangaka, Junji Ito was a dental technician, and his first manga works were in horror *and* humor. So, knowing that, it's not too surprising how this master of horror can also write such entertaining slice-of-life comedy. The bonus manga and afterword, written by the mangaka's wife, are even quite poignant. Besides the Q&A with the author, the book also has an enjoyable short anecdote about his experience as an owner of a wood-burning stove.

The title is an interesting term in aviation that provides a powerful metaphor for describing the very difficult social/economic conditions of the time period in Deutschland. Louisa Unger is a pilot, rare in a man’s specialty area. Successful in her flight training, Louisa becomes involved inadvertently in an airborne smuggling operation and is arrested and confined to an American Military prison. Louisa is interrogated, and she tells the story of Germans trying to reconstruct their country and deal with the guilt of the War-time atrocities of the Nazi regime.Louisa’s account of the year preceding her capture involves descriptions of flying, personal relationships, post-War hardships, and difficult conflict resolutions. Time of Useful Consciousness (TUC) is the amount of time an individual is able to perform flying duties efficiently in an environment of inadequate oxygen supply. The aftermath of war waged within a country is a shortage of adequate resources to rebuild its culture on a grand scale. There is also a decreased supply of personal resilience to reconnect with family and develop new loving relationships in an atmosphere low on moral identity. Some of Ott’s characters, like Louisa, react positively in the TUC physical/social environment and others negatively making for an exciting narrative. I give the novel 4 stars for its unique and interesting historical perspective.I was given a copy of the novel by the author for an honest review.

As always I'm hesitant when reading historical fiction as authors tend to take huge liberties with historical events. Thankfully I've found that author Jennifer Ott wrote her story in a way that engages while enlightening. The characters face overwhelming issues in a country destroyed by war and man's unquenchable greed, reading from the characters various perspectives gives readers different viewpoints on the aftermath of war, survival, love, family and freedom. Having survived the Nazi regime and constant Allied bombings to then be threatened by occupation and rationing of Yanks(U.S. soldiers) in her war wrecked home of Stuttgart, Germany, Louisa Unger finds a way to be free in a world that is anything but free. Louisa has only know where she could not go and what she could not do, so when afforded the chance to learn to fly an airplane, just like her father, Louisa can't say no. Flying gives Louisa an intoxicating feeling of freedom, but the freedom comes with a price. The men she works for are involved in the German black market, transporting various items for rich clientele who seem to remain untouched by the affects of the war. Louisa ultimately finds herself embroiled in danger when all she wants is to escape into the sky above with her love, brother and life, but will Louisa get that chance in a Post-World War II world? Overall, enjoyed this book. I'm usually more fascinated with Ancient or Tudor-English history, but this story helped ignite a need to study up on my Post-World War II history. The story was told from multiple viewpoints in a nonlinear timeline, which both developed and detracted from the story. The scene would move forward in time then present then back in time, present and then present again but to another character without a time stamp or format icon to let readers know time had shifted. Historical credence in this story is within the margin of acceptable and not overly fictitious, which is great in helping readers understand the history of time period without lying to them. The story definitely showed how raw life was in Germany post Nazi regime and reading into how people chose to survive and rebuild was saddening. The greatest moments were of Louisa finding love and hope in flying, even when in the end, or beginning, it all looked hopeless, she truly was a diamond in the rough kind of heroine. So if you are looking for a glimpse into Post-World War II Germany where a young girl yearns to be free and finds happiness in flying planes only to be caught up in the black market serving the rich, guilty and evil, then this book would be good to read.**I received a free copy in return for an honest review**------Read more of my reviews at: [...]------

By Teri Caiazzo Louisa Unger is a young girl when World War II first breaks out, and her mother, Marlene, and brother Freddy, must hide in the basement during the bombing so they wouldn't get injured or worse from fallen debris from the bombing over their home. It is a scary and uncertain time for this family, and most likely for all of the German people. One day there is a knock on the door, and Freddy went to see who it is, it's an officer from the German military, handing Freddy a telegraph, and telling him that his father is MIA and presumed dead. This turned the Unger household upside down. First Marlene begins sleeping with American soldiers to keep more food on the table than the rations per household is given, it's not enough for them, then Freddy leaves, not wanting to live under the same roof of any American soldier. One night while sleeping the phone rings in the Unger home, Louisa answers it, and it is the American Military prison saying they had captured Freddy, but if they post bail he could be set free. When Louisa goes to her mother's room to tell her mother about Freddy, her mother tells her she is going to make him stay there at least overnight to teach him a lesson, but Louisa wants to see her brother, and takes her chances going out at night and walking to the prison. She gets to see Freddy, and is surprised at his physical changes since she last seen him. He is no longer the young man she remembers leaving their home, but is a grown man, but with the same twinkle in his eye, he is surprised to see Louisa alone, she asks him to come home once he is out of prison, and he tells her he will not return home as long as Americans are in still going in their home. Then he tells her that she shouldn't have come out by herself at this hour, before long a prison guard comes in to tell Freddy his bail has been posted. Louisa is elated, but confused, she knows her mother said they didn't have money to bail Freddy out. She waits for him in the lobby of the prison, when Freddy comes out, he doesn't go to his sister,but instead goes to a handsome young man, who pats him on the back. Kris Schuler is the name of the man that has posted bail for Freddy, and when Louisa calls for her brother, Kris asks if she is his girlfriend, he laughs and tells him no, she's his sister. Not long after that Kris begins to teach Louisa to fly, and she becomes involved with running missions with Kris and her brother. This genre of book isn't my usual choice to read, however, I was pleasantly surprised, at how engrossed I was in this story. Though mainly told by the point of view of the young German's I think it brings out the both sides as well. At the end of the day, no matter what flag is fighting for, it is still someone's child, sibling or parent that is dead, they are all scared but fight for their country. This was truly an amazing book, filled with heartbreaking stories, and a historical look that is so real, it reads like a true story. This book was a gift by the author to me, for an honest review, and this is my honest opinion of the book, and not in any way reflects upon the fact it was gift.

Hayes Volume 2 continues the Twin Star Exorcists storytine with Benio and Rokuro assuming their exorcist dealing roles. The story may not venture off into a territory that one could consider truly original but it is still filled with fun and some drama. I think it is swiftly approaching a point where I can truly say that it is fantastic but it just isnt there yet. I did read this in one night and found it exciting at times but midway through it did start to feel like a bit of a grind before the next baddie appeared.Volume wise it still lacks a color insert which is sad since most of Viz JUMP SQ manga do have them initially during their runs. Though the volume does come with information inserts between chapters, some additional drawings, omake content, a bonus mini chapter, and an artists afterward + drawn comic. I like this extra content but the color page will be what I will still ding it for. Why can't Viz include an insert like TegamiBachi and Seraph of the End and BLue Exorcist?There were no identifiable typos or mistakes.

Like anyone can not just pre-order Vol. 3 after an ending like that! Really enjoyed this volume. Lots of action but we're really getting to know Rokuro and Benio better as characters and they are getting to know each other better. Also included here is some good plotting with the story behind the "twin star" exorcists and family history for Benio. While the two are certainly not in a relationship yet, their forced circumstances has brought them together in interesting ways and a competitive nature, which can be cute at times, has blossomed between them. The direction of the next volume should prove interesting!

About the Author Arnita DeShields is currently the CEO of DeShields Counseling, Life Coaching & Consulting Services and is the Founder of Butterfly Empowerment Services Transform (B.E.S.T.) services for abused women and their children. Arnita is the producer and host of New Beginnings Prayer Outreach Television Ministry that will equip people with the Word of God and empower with prayer. Embracing a passion for helping victims of domestic violence, community development, outreach and empowering individuals in all areas of their life, Arnita has been practicing social work and counseling since 1987. She serves her community as a leader and member of Camden County Commission for Women, a member of the Senior Advisory Council for the Aging, Church Health Liaison for Virtua Health System and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Faithful in service as a volunteer, Arnita assists victims of domestic violence and is the Founder of I m Free Ministries. Through ministry she provides housing and supportive services for victims of domestic violence and their children located in Lindenwold, New Jersey. She was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King Freedom Medal for her dedication to community service. Arnita has been active in a variety of Christian ministry for 24 years and is currently a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Philadelphia under the leadership of Pastor Harry Moore, Sr. She was licensed as a Minister on February 15, 2004 by Bishop David G. Evans of Bethany Baptist Church headquartered in Lindenwold, NJ, where she served as an Associate Minister. Arnita has preached and taught for both adults and youth at churches, conferences, retreats and seminary. She is grateful for awesome leaders that covered and mentored her in ministry. In 2006, she started New Beginnings Radio Ministry on WTMR 800AM in Camden NJ and had re-emerged in 2009 on Radio One s Praise 103.9, Philadelphia s inspiration station. In 2007, Arnita became Co-Host of Battle for Life, a prayer outreach TV ministry that aired on the Virgin Island, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In 2011 she became the host of New Beginnings Prayer Outreach TV Ministry presently airing on The NOW Network on Channel 16.4, every 2nd & 4th Saturday at 10pm, in Upstate South Carolina, North Carolina, Northern GA and streaming. It is a ministry designed to encourage believers and non-believers alike through exhortation and intercessory prayer on the air and with lessons from God s Word on how to let go of the old and embrace the new , and how to avoid getting trapped in what is , instead of positioning one s self toward what can be . . . Theme is Remember Every Day Is A New Beginning - 2nd Corinthians 5:17. Arnita DeShields is a 1999 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice, where she received a Masters of Social Work, and is also a 1990 graduate of Villanova University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts & Sciences; her major was Communications. Presently, she is attending International Miracle Institute for a Doctorate in Christian Theology. Arnita was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, where she currently resides with her son, Joseph Emmanuel. She is also referred to as Lady, which is a nick name given to her from birth in honor of her late Grandmother, Lady Lee Oden. Arnita is so grateful for her loving parents, Mary Elizabeth DeShields and the late Ranzo DeShields. She is blessed to be the youngest of ten siblings, and loves both her family and friends dearly. She enjoys writing poetry, sharing her gift of spoken word, sacred dancing, reading and more. Her life scriptures are Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me, and Luke 1:37 - For with God nothing shall be impossible!

Reading the powerful different stories of how God moved were amazing and awesome to see the power of God move in your life and the lives of others to provide or reconfirm hope to those reading to "Watch God Move."In chapter 8 on page 55 when you provided the wonderful illustration about your dad as stated, “He sacrificed his life and went back to get him-he picked up the soldier and carried him across his shoulder to safety.” I love how you expressed, “This has been a great example for me to follow and although, I may never have to carry someone across a battlefield, my goal is to help whenever God gives me the opportunity to do so.” Yes I love this example and can relate to it. I continue to pray God’s strength to lead and guide me to serve in this way as you stated.Additionally, thank you for sharing about your dad being in WWII. My dad was in Vietnam in which he served as a medic. I was informed that my dad was awarded an honor for his service while serving in Vietnam. He was wounded by being shot in his back during his service in Vietnam which I learned as well. My heart and compassion goes out to not only my dad for his service in the military but all those like your dad and others who served our country which I agree with your statement on page 55 & 56, “I appreciate and salute all those who have served our country both the past and present-your labor of love is not in vain…” As I reflected on this statement, I am reminded that this week we are scheduled to celebrate Veteran’s Day on 11/11/15.What a blessing that you were able to start a “mentorship program for children who witnessed domestic violence…” This is a blessing and definitely helpful to children who’ve been impacted by domestic violence as I remember being impacted as a child witnessing domestic abuse in our household. Even though I was exposed to this ungodly act on multiple occasions as a child, I thank the Lord for Romans 8:28 which allowed those negative experiences to provide me with God's strength and guidance to be determined to not allow me to allow my children to grow up being exposed to this evil for a significant period of time like I was exposed as a child.God is faithful and again congratulations on your blessed book! Continued blessings to those who read your book to be inspired and blessed by it! This is a wonderful read from Author and Minister Arnita Deshields By Author B Michelle Almost finished reading this inspiration book of faith and how we can trust God's faithfulness to move in our situations and struggles. Reading about the many testimonies of how God moved in and through people's life was truly a testament that God is interested in meeting deep needs, strengthening sorrowful spirits and reassuring us that cares, This is a wonderful read from Author and Minister Arnita Deshields. I am grateful that God lead her to share these inspiring stories.

Newborns are different than infants and this book understands how daunting it is to have this new person who has newly emerged into you life and is totally dependent on your care. Highly recommend this book.

Recommended by my wife's ob-gyn, this book helped prepare us with very specific steps and techniques on how to care for our newborn once we brought her home. Their approaches also matched the tips and techniques our hospital (Kaiser) also taught us in their preparatory classes for expectant parents, which only serves to confirm the advice they provide (in my opinion). Of course, having live demos from the nursing staff after delivery helped a lot, but having the book around helped reinforce and remind us of what they taught us.

I'm about a quarter of the way through it and have found it to have invaluable information so far. This is the best book I've read out of the 3 others I've already read. Seems to really prepare you and give you an idea of what to expect. It's a simple read and has some fun humor thrown in too.
