15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Spellbinding story plus geography lesson By Leganto I first read Michael Strogoff in the Classics Illustrated comics version. Then I read it textually in the N.C. Wyeth illustrated edition, and later picked up a paperback that came out in the mid 1950s. I remember taking out my atlas and tracing his route across the Russian Empire, I believe from St. Petersburg to the shores of Lake Baikal. Learned some things about Russian geography that I never forgot, in addition to enjoying the great adventure story.I found out later that Jules Verne wrote in vivid detail about places he had never physically visited. Would like to get some opinions from native Russians or travelers who really know the places mentioned. But even if they do reveal all kinds of mistakes or misperceptions, the story is still a great one.Would like to purchase a new copy of Michael Strogoff to replaced my old paperback. But now they tell us that Verne's works were usually abridged in English translation, to become "novels for boys" without the political commentary and other adult details. So I guess I will wait until I know that there is an unabridged English translation available, like for Mysterious Island and some others.

Kujawa My paperback mysteriously disappeared ages ago-- I'm so glad to see the book is back in print, in several editions! Not only is MICHAEL STROGOFF one of Jules Verne's least-known books, it also spawned one of the least-known Jules Verne film adaptations! Seek out if you can, from 1937, SOLDIER AND THE LADY, starring Anton Walbrook (the hero), Akim Tamiroff (the villain!) and Ed Brophy (the comic-relief newspaper-reporter). It feels like a Disney "adventure" film decades before Disney started doing them!

Karp Having recently found the boutique audio publisher Tantor, I have been a major consumer of their MP3 CDs and regular CDs. In addition to my favorite Edgar Rice Burroughs (yes I am over 50!)I purchased Michael Strogoff in MP3 CD format and could not stop listening. The story Jules Vern plays out for us is highly visual and while filled with the typical chance meetings found in the style of adventure writers of that day, it was first rate. The inclusion by Vern of the two newspaper reporters from England and France in several stages of the book was an interesting twist of comedy in a generally serious book.Those that have not had an opportunity to listen to audio books on CD or MP3CD would be delighted with this one to start.Naration by John Bolen is as usual superior especially with male voices. His female voices sometimes can be too high pitched and shrill but once one has become a regular Tantor listener, it falls out of the conscious.Highly recommended literature.

Kudos for Mr. Joseph, for being a prime example of a parent, single or not, gay or not, Parenting is a skill that only experience can teach you the in and outs of, and thus you learn from. In a "generalized" ideal world it's great for a child to have both parents, both Mom and Dad, unfortunately, sometimes one does not. Mr. Joseph has proven through sacrifice, determination and unconditional love, that come push or shove, a man is totally capable of raising healthy, educated and loving children ( I know more than several that have). The times have changed and clearly continues to do so, but men like Mr.Joseph (just like single Moms) should be highly commended for being a prime example of parenthood without any bias of gender or sexuality. In a time where we one would anthem "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves", well thanks Mr.Joseph for showing "Brothers Are Doing It For Themselves".....and can.

As a professional who chose to stay at home with her children, I can relate to many of the challenges Jim and Christopher have faced raising their kids. I can't imagine going through all of it with the added stress of dealing with intolerance. This book is well-written, easy to read, and so hard to put down! The photographs are fantastic; this is one book you should purchase in hardcover!

Being a gay father, I found myself laughing at the similarities between the author's reactions to certain situations and inner thoughts about different people during his journeys. It was written not only to share personal trials, tribulations and triumphs, but to enlighten and inspire - and I am so glad that Jim Joseph took the time to do just that for all readers, not just those of us who are in same-sex relationships. I will most certainly recommend it!

By RebeccaSue There's some good advice in this book, about how to break-up with someone appropriately, and how to deal with a break-up and effectively remove traces of that person from your life. There's also some common sense insights about how to manage yourself and your emotions afterwards. One thing I would add that has been very helpful to me is Emotional Freedom technique, or EFT tapping as it's called. This little technique effectively removes the negative feelings associated with certain events, people and memories. It has been hugely helpful in the aftermath of relationships.

By Max I get the feeling that most men are to macho to admit that they could benefit from a book like this but the truth is most relationships end in a breakup and knowing how to get over it and get back on your feet fast is a great skill to have. Even if you are in a healthy relationship the tips in this book make you a better freind and more helpful when people you know break up. Good tips, and as the guy who is everyones counselor this book is invaluable :)

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Nene Gets Full Ownership Of Clarion. By Fusionwavestarprism During the heavy assault on Buer, Nene can't find Clarion and becomes very worried. She starts to have flashbacks with her mother and the life saving operation that was done to her, So there was in fact a accident in the past that happened to Nene and the rest of her family. Just as a wave of light almost hits Nene a robot saves her from the blast, These robots are called "Gertsecommas" that function under Clarion's commands.Clarion doesn't know what to think when Uzal orders her to stay with Nene, She just leaves her and tells Nene to take good care of her, As you read the story you will see that Clarion becomes very sad and lonely.Nene finally gets to meet Takumi, Her Aunt. She has a checkerboard diamond ornament in her hair along with two round bells that hang from threads and two bells around her waist and looks very much like a Ninja. When Nene and Clarion meet her for the first time they have that, "I think we have the wrong house" look on their faces. The next day Takumi takes them both to Area Mercury for some shopping and during the walk a very funny event takes place when Clarion thinks Nene's life's in danger and turns out was just a dog in the bushes, Knocks Clarion completely over and Takumi laughs away as Clarion picks up a bench from the park and chases after the dog with it. Nene also sees that Takumi has four marks behind her neck and asks her if she has a "Cybrain".A person dressed in black will follow Nene and Clarion, Takumi watches this event unfold and will use "Gertsecommas" to follow them with and uses optical camouflage to hide from the mysterious stalker.Battle artwork was great again and I like the colorful artwork in the beginning of the book that shows Nene holding Uzal's glasses as she hopes that Clarion didn't die in the battle against Buer.These books are new but doesn't come factory sealed.Ages 13 and higher can read this.

By KE This is another excellent volume, continuing directly after the first. Needless to say, the writing and artwork are at the exact same level as they were in volume one. This volume finishes the confrontation with BUER and continues on to Nene's meeting with the aunt that she mentioned in passing in volume one. Additionally, there are bonus materials at the end of the volume that include concept art from the scrapped television-original animated series that was later re-purposed as the basis for this series. There's even a series of four-panel strips where Clarion and Nene run a radio show and read fanmail. In summary, you'll probably like this volume at least as much as you liked volume one.

Winn Interesting short story that tells the tale of two children Tilly and Teddy who live on a farm with their parents. One day The kids are going to find a big secret when they, along with their mother, meet Jacobi and learn a lot about clouds. This book was fun and I feel it will appeal to a lot of different ages of readers. Although short, the story is whole and the writing well done.

Her parents won't stop hurting everyone she knows and loves until she is dead or drops her search. No matter what she chooses it comes with consequences she is not prepared for. So she is trapped no matter what she does. She seeks justice through the justice system, but she quickly realizes her parents have powerful people in their pocket. She realizes that the justice system won't be able to help. An that they won't stop unless they die. So she is trapped.

I doubt spell check was even used on this one. Run on sentences, words that weren't complete. The author doesn't even know when to use "and" & "an". Please have your book edited. It makes it easier to read and keeps the author from having terrible reviews.

It was very interesting and the cliffhanger left me wanting more... But, I felt very frustrated with the writing; I felt like to many phrases were repeated, many sentences I had to reread because words were misused or spelled wrong, and the author tried too hard to not use contractions. It jumped to new times and info so fast and sometimes certain things had so much detail while other times important info was left short.All in all though, it was a good read and I'd recommend it to friend!
