Varraso 101 Things to teach your kids or to learn for yourself at any time ought to be the name of this book It's one of the very, very rare quality parenting books for parents of older kids. A lot of the lessons are obvious, like the first one: "Kindness is a Simple Thing." Well yeah. I hope that you've been teaching your kids to be kind to other people, animals and our Earth since they were small. It's not going to be easy to teach in a short time if you've waited until your child is a teen Hopefully, you've been modeling kind and thoughtful behavior since your children were born, otherwise you're in for a heck of a time.It's also a heck of a read for yourself The practical lessons are real things you need to know (I wish I had my Kindle with me so I could quote some!), the ethical lessons are wonderful thought exercises. I like picking a topic and meditating on it for that day I don't always agree with everything Ms. Hoyt says, but I often find myself nodding with her in agreement. I'm also impressed that she was able to keep it 101 topics -- if it had been me, this thing would easily have 1001 topics, and would weigh more than an unabridged dictionary!Many of the lessons are good for all ages, parent or not, which is why I gave this book as a shower present to a friend who is expecting. Just knowing some of the questions and how you feel about them will make you a better parent. It will also help you raise a healthy, self-sufficient adult, which is the most important reason for reading the book.

Having moved out at an early age I had to learn many of these things on my own and did not consider how much of a challenge it could be for my own kids.

By Mary Flores I meant to use my Sunday to catch up on housework, wash some scrubs, and do a little putzing in the garden...I only meant to read for an hour, I swear! As four o'clock in the afternoon rolled around, I'm ashamed to admit I was still in bed, completely engrossed in this surprising love story. These people (not characters - they're complex, human, falliable, joyous, irresponsible, limited, achingly open people) captivated me. I laughed with them, I was angry with some of their actions, and I cried when the repercussions of some of their choices came clear.I know when I come across a great read, because even after "the end", I'll catch myself wondering what they're up to; musing on how the story unfolded, wondering when would be a good time to go visit my old friends again, even if it's just for thirty minutes curled up on the couch before bed. In some ways, it's hard for me to share how much I enjoyed this book, because I want to keep it for myself...I don't want everyone to get to know Esther and her quirks, to fall in love with Max and his steadfastedness. I'm not a jealous person in life, but I tend to get selfish with stories I love...a guilty pleasure, maybe. An acceptable misbehavior, for which I am atoning now.So please, from one random Internet stranger to another, take a chance. Dive in, but make sure your day is clear. It's too easy to say "just a few more pages..." with this one.

The language she uses is indicative of the lifestyle .She moves along briskly and keeps your interest, I had trouble putting the book down. I was amazed at the insight shown regarding deep moral dilemmas and great abiding love. The book reminded me that love for others in all facets of life is the most important thing. What a spectacular ending! Just superb!

It clearly highlighted to me that we are all called to not only work, but to do our best work every day. I really like how Mike pulled some of the best verses from the Bible and clearly connected stewardship with a daily to-do list.I really love productivity, and it's so refreshing to see a deeper purpose behind my work. Great book. I definitely recommend it.

Good advice with a bad veneer of prosperity theology By Vaughan Smith I first heard Mike interviewed on the Asian Efficiency podcast, where I was really encouraged by his 'goal setting for families' discussion. Afterwards, I immediately went and bought the Kindle copy of his book and ploughed into it.First, a bit of background. I'm a pastor of a small Presbyterian church, and I've spent a bunch of years being woefully disorganised and unproductive. I've recently gotten hooked by GTD and a bunch of other productivity tools, and so it was great to hear that there was a Christian man who had seemingly gone through the same journey as me.First, the positives. Mike writes in a really accessible way, and makes his points clearly and without fluffing around. I love this in a writer, it makes me excited to read the next chapter. He also adds great exercises at the end of each chapter which are easy to complete and help you to reflect on your goals and priorities.I also love how Mike doesn't offer a quick fix to unproductivity - hustle, he says, is not related to "potential". A great quote - "To me, potential is a four letter word. We use it to make excuses for our lack of production. We assume that we have this innate ability to just flip a switch at any point and start doing something awesome, but it just doesn’t work that way. If you want to to do something great, you have to work at it. You have to be consistent, intentional, and dedicated to achieve your goals."Amen!However, the problem that I kept running into in the book is that it is soaked in prosperity theology. The use of the Bible borders on allegory most of the time, and treats prayers of individuals (such as Jabez) as examples of how God will work in the lives of believers today. The concept of "sowing a seed" and reaping some kind of harvest, based on God's promise to Noah in Genesis that he would maintain the order of the world between the flood and the eschaton is pretty blatantly unbiblical. God never makes the promise to believers that their hard work will always see results - in fact, God promises that life for Christians while we wait for Jesus to return will be a struggle with a fallen world filled with fallen people. Jesus isn't a wish-fulfilment fairy waiting to fill your jars with oil as soon as you enlarge your tent, he's our Lord who deserves all our worship as we are conformed to his image - in joy as well as suffering.So I was very disappointed with this book. There is some great advice here, but the veneer of word-faith and prosperity theology is thick enough that I would not be able to recommend it to others.

By Zach Stuck Before reading Thou Shalt Hustle, I had my own idea of how productivity could directly impact the overall quality of my life. Mike Schmitz makes this idea even clearer throughout the book. His meaning for the word Hustle comes down to accomplishing every task that you agree to do despite sometimes not feeling like doing them, all so you can become a better version of yourself. Mike explains how Hustling in every area of your life can provide success for your career, personal life and growing your faith. I highly recommend reading Thou Shalt Hustle. It's a quick read, but packs a lot of crucial information for hacking your daily life.

It wasn't all that insightful; all of us of a certain age have undergone these challenges and more, but it was good to see that men have the same lack of confidence that women experience. The anonymity and ability to block a suitor without so much as a thank you seems a refuge for rudeness and lack of kindness. And, as a veteran of these sites, I am inspired to give one small piece of advice to men who undertake this method of meeting women. Many of you display at least one photo of your trophy catch. Women are not attracted to dead fish. I know you look on it as a point of honor and accomplishment (after all, you bested that great wriggling beast), but that bass or trout or salmon is not going to win your lady love. Lose the fish.

Thus far, I am at the part where, as quite an attractive, well -educated, classy, fun woman, I ..return from a Starbuck's meeting for coffee, only to find an email awaiting me asking if I feel I am ready for sex! Breakup Recover By myers25 I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Ok so this was not what I was expecting, I thought there would be a bit more story to go along with the blog post...Even though it wasn't what I expected I did enjoy the insight of the author. This is a journey many of us have taken in some shape, form, or fashion at some time in our life. It does read a little like a self-help book for overcoming a breakup but it's a little more than that. While there are the normal self-help platitudes throughout the book the author is working the steps right in front of us. We watch the author learn and grow over the course of a year. Learning to accept and love himself flaws and all.I thought this was a very realistic view of "breakup recovery". The doubting your self-worth, depression, random sex, thinking you might get back together... Bottom line it takes time to get over a meaningful relationship and there are stages of recovery the key is not to stall and become bitter...

Blog posts compiled into a book By Silly Billy I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review.If I understood the beginning of this book correctly, it is a compilation of blog posts written by the author during a trying time in his life. It definitely reads like a blog, each chapter is a day's entry summarizing the revelations he had that day. I found most of the entries to be interesting, and I liked reflecting over what he mentions and trying to apply it to my own life.In all honesty, I thought this was going to be something like a memoir detailing the post-break-up part of the author's life. Not even close. It was more like a self-help book where the author gives you advice on what he has learned while reflecting over his life and relationship. This is not what I was looking for, which may have contributed to a lower star rating. I also felt like the paragraphs and chapters were repetitive, and I really can't tell you a chapter that stood out because of this (they all seemed the same to me).

The pitfalls of dating. How blogging and therapy helped him to get to know himself better.There wasn't anything in particular that really stood out to me in the book. I did think there was a bit of a stereotype against gay individuals in the story but that might have just been how I interpreted it. I liked that the MC seemed to see both sides of an issues. I also liked that he got to see himself and what issues he had.
