Dyslexia is a way of thinking, living and imagining what life should be like. Dyslexia is a brain that thinks in 3D movies and can vividly see things that don't even exist yet, in their mind's eye. Dyslexia figures out how to turn a good idea, or a bad one, into reality. Dyslexia is an artist, an inventor, an architect, a storyteller, a politician, a teacher, a scientist, a chef, a director, an engineer, a world traveler and a faithful friend. In elementary school "Dyslexia" doesn't LOOK like a genius, Dyslexia can't look at a flat page, white with black letters all over it. In school that is what kids are expected to do for hours on end! BUT Dyslexia learns from the real world, and nothing in the real world is black, white and flat. Teachers don't always understand this because the dyslexic person is obviously brilliant. I know because I suffered under the influence of several teachers who didn't see the "gift" and only focused on my problems, I even failed 3rd grade! Life eventually turned around for me and I began to thrive in 5th grade, with the help on a few people who believed in me. So how do I know what it feels like to live a dyslexic life? I liked the pencil sharpener at the front of the classroom. I liked the closets where we hung our jackets. Most of all, I liked watching the big clock in the front of the classroom... when the hour hand pointed to the big three. I became a daydreamer. I would doodle on my schoolwork. I would play with my pencils and make origami when the teacher wasn’t looking. I would look out the window and imagine I was somewhere else. I felt like school was a waste of time, I wasn’t even good at schoolwork; the letters swirled around on the page, and long lists of math facts made me dizzy. I wanted to go home and build cities in the sand pile. The kids at school would always smash the cities at the playground. If I had been born twenty years later, I suppose I would have been labeled with “Dyslexia” and maybe “Asperger’s Syndrome.” In the right school, they may have even called me “gifted.” But in the 1980s, kids like me were considered “immature” and were called “daydreamers.” We became failures and were required to repeat whatever grades we couldn’t pass. I told my teachers that I was going to be a mom and an artist, like my mom, so why should I even go to school? I was fourteen when I finally talked my parents into homeschooling me. That was when the woods became my classroom. That was when I fell in love with life and learning. That was when I met Josh. That was when the sky became my ceiling."

With my 7yo recently being diagnosed with dyslexia I wanted more answers. i figure since Sarah Janisse Brown and 3 of her 10 children have dyslexia she would have the answers that I need.And while she might, but this book did not answer those questions. Instead, this book took me on a faith journey. It challenged my level of surrender to God, It made me re-evaluate just how serious I took my relationship with Him, and so much more.I have more highlighted phrases, underlined verses, and prayers in this book than any of my other reviews. God used this book to get me face-to-face with Him and His calling on my life! I was reminded that He will take care of every single detail! When He gives you a promise, command, or calling He will provide all of the details that go along with it!I cannot say enough good things about this book! Even if you or anyone in your family doesn't have dyslexia, this book still is a gem that you need to read! You will see a level of faith in Sarah that will challenge you and cause you to believe deeper, and desire to grow more in your relationship with God.There is humor there too! Stories of her and her children that will make you laugh, and wonder how she does it all!

There are a few chapters added with the last entry being June 15.This is a beautifully written love story. Not only her love for her husband but for life, dyslexia, her children, she also as a love for others. Her love for sharing God's Word.And oh the many places Sarah as been and the careers she's had :)This is a great read and I'm thrilled my daughter wants to read it too. We will have many discussions about her book.I think I'll add it to her health class!
