Del Pizzo A poignant story of a more than two-decade love abruptly ended, underscored by the painful transference of a soulmate to stranger in the time it takes to brush your teeth in the morning. Laugh, cry, laugh some more as the writer agonizes through the pain and forces herself into the dating scene after having been coupled for most of the younger decades of her life. For sure an enjoyable read that may enhance your perspective of your own relationship as it did mine. A dual benefit is that the book exudes historical significance since it chronicles the story of a woman who entered into a same-sex “marriage” full of love, hope and loyalty before legal marriage was a possibility and was caused to leave it with no entitlement to the fruits of the couple’s labor. You will want to know what happens …-- I started reading late on a Saturday night and refused to leave for work on Monday morning before I had finished.

Kate really got the way an obsession with your ex takes over and you just can't let it go. Doesn't matter if you're straight or gay (I'm straight) the feelings are the same, especially if you were dumped and really don't understand why. I was dumped for another woman after 18 years of marriage and went through the same process--it was very hard to let go. People keep telling you to move on, and you feel that you should be able to, but somehow the pain just won't go away. I loved Kate's search for a spiritual answer--something--anything that would work. The book is very addictive, I couldn't put it down. I had to keep reading to find out how she dealt with the breakup, if she ever did move on. I won't include any spoilers about that, but she keeps you guessing until the end., If you've gone through a breakup (and who hasn't) you will relate to this book.

Lander In Looking for a Kiss: A Chronicle of Downtown Heartbreak and Healing, Kate Walter takes you along with her on a raw and intimate journey to enlightenment. As she says in her dedication, the book is “Dedicated to women who’ve been dumped after twenty-five years.” Yes, the book tells the tale of the demise of this relationship, but it becomes clear early on that it also became a catalyst for finding a much different—and much more conscious—way to live her life. Incorporating “New Age” practices, including becoming more intuitive, became part of her healing process. It was enjoyable reading about her experiences with these practitioners and to cheer her as she celebrated victories and progress. There’s even the bonus of some common-sense dating wisdom by the mysterious “Dr. R.” which I couldn’t help but take to heart. A fun and fruitful read.
