Described as an 'Anti-Parenting' book, Raising Whole People reads like an intimate conversation with an outspoken, somewhat opinionated friend. The author employs reflection and analysis to explore the ways in which understanding and acknowledging the full humanity of all children changes nurturing and teaching behavior. Throughout RWP's 10 chapters, the reader is asked to examine large ideas, like the salience of death in human consciousness, the ability of language to shape our shared reality, and whether there is a point in development at which people become people. These concepts are then tied to their implications for our moment-to-moment interactions with kids. Whether the reader is a parent, teacher, therapist, or simply a former child, this book promises to lead to a deeper understanding of who we are as people.

About the Author Hannah Markos is an educational consultant who currently resides in Western Massachusetts with her husband and their clumsy but well meaning bulldog. After almost a decade of providing services to children and families in a variety of capacities, Hannah is currently focused on synthesizing her knowledge and experience into formats that lend themselves to honest dialogue and increased social awareness. Hannah also writes music, but the rest of her hobbies are embarrassing (e.g. K9 Freestyle Dance training, much to her bulldog’s chagrin).

By Katie This book was thought provoking and deeply insightful. Hannah's experience makes her an excellent ally for people living in the autism era and her humor and sense of self are clearly presented in her book. Her discussion of diagnoses, life, death, consciousness, and the individual rights of all humans to embody their whole selves are important concepts for all people whether you're parenting, teaching, or just trying to live in the autism era. Her thorough discussions of language and how it influences the way we think about and treat other people is well worth the read. Inspiring and supportive.
