I told them about this book and for thosewho do yoga, the instructions are easy to follow with photos. They were excited to read it and were so glad they didas they were able to continue their yoga in a safe way. And the breathing techniques were helpful as well.

The 1853 Burial Act introduced changes that would affect every English town and village outside London. New cemeteries looked set to replace the centuries-old churchyard, removing the dead from the heart of the community, and burial became a scientific rather than a spiritual concern. The secularisation of burial has long been regarded as an essential symbol of modernity, but was this process so straightforward? This study challenges a long-standing tendency to regard the churchyard as inherently 'traditional' and the cemetery as essentially 'modern.' This fascinating volume reviews the burial history of central North Yorkshire. New evidence demonstrates that the Church of England continued to have a substantial role in burial provision, and largely benefited from the Burial Acts. Furthermore, reviewing churchyard and cemetery provision in tandem demonstrates that one did not necessarily replace the other. Rather, both were subject to the play of new expectations for burial space to guarantee that families could be buried together with opportunity for formal commemoration. Population in the area declined, but demand for burial space meant that many dozens of churchyards were extended, and forty new cemeteries were laid out. Sure to become essential reading for modules on Victorian death, this book is accessible to an undergraduate audience at the same time as providing clear narrative and theoretical frameworks to challenge presumptions at higher levels. It will be also be invaluable to anyone involved in the management and conservation of burial ground.

Folkers Highly technical and extremely well sourced, this reference has enlightened me as to the burial practices in England and the politics involved in shifting from overcrowded churchyards to cemeteries. This has been extremely helpful in my genealogical work as it deals with North Yorkshire where my families are from. I have visited some of the churchyards mentioned in this book and it has explained some of the things I saw. Well done!

The book of all books, the Bible is an excellent source of stories to share to your little ones. After realizing that our children know Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse more than they know Jesus, we decided to make it a personal mission to read Bible stories to our kids. But that doesn't always come easy. Because if you read stories straight from the Bible, sentence structure is meant for adult readers; not the type that toddlers would like. And...there are no pictures. We needed books of Bible stories written with rhyme words. The Rhyme Bible: Storybook for Little Ones is the first one though that my kids actually picked up. I told them I'll read it to them since we only have one copy and I didn't want them fighting over it.So what's with rhymes and children?Rhymes helps children learn how to read.That's one thing I learned from studying language and literacy education in graduate school and then applying these learnings to my two-year-old twins.How is that so?By using rhymes words such as "cat" and "mat", children are able to detect the word segment"at" which is common between the two words. Children become aware that these words have common sounds.Dr. Usha Goswami, the director of the Centre for Neuroscience in Education at St. John's College, Cambridge and professor of Cognitive Developmental Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge noted that awareness of the fact that certain words share similar sound segments (e.g. cat, mat, fat) helps prepare children to learn that these words also have common spelling sequences.This, in turn, aids them in their early reading journey.Bookstart, a UK-based early childhood education program, emphasized these points: "A child that has learnt this characteristic of rhyme is therefore likely to be well equipped to learn how certain spellings produce similar-sounding words once they start school. Experience suggests that when they begin to learn reading, children that are sensitive to rhyme are better able to make the inference, for example, that fight and might are likely to be spelt the same way as the word light. Accurate and fun Bible for bedtime story time with littles By Laurke This puffy-covered board book tells the major Bible stories briefly and in rhyme. The Rhyme Bible is full of "joyful pictures and ten classic stories" and could become a toddler's favorite bedtime book. The "vivid verse" and "soothing sounds of rhyme" make this an enjoyable read for parents as well, so you won't mind reading it again and again.I tested it out on the 2 year old I babysat this morning, and this active boy did manage to listen to several pages before wanting to flip through the pages at his speed. So, he looked at the rest of the pictures and ran off to play. So, what did I think? Not bad at all!Each of the stories has the Bible reference listed (God Made Everything is subtitled Genesis 1&2, for instance), and has edge to edge illustrations across one or two two-page spreads. They don't contain any questionable theology or overly-cartoonish people, although Goliath is ridiculously large. The fish that swallowed Jonah is identified as a fish, not a whale. The story of the fall with the fruit and serpent is not included, but creation, Noah and Moses are all there. Jesus birth, death and resurrection are all included, and the book ends with His ascension:Jesus' friends went here and there,Telling people everywhere,"Jesus is God's only Son,And he loves you, every one!"Okay, that last line reminds me a bit of Dicken's Tiny Tim, but toddlers won't have that reference in mind. :) I was mistakingly sent two copies of this book, and was allowed to keep both, so I will be giving them as gifts this Christmas! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Nice Boat! By Tim The second volume of the Genshiken reboot follows the previous one not just in story, but in both my praise and complaints. The references to new anime creates something of a continuity error from the original time line, but it keeps in the spirit of the original and most of the jokes are so funny that I don't care (it may have been my sleep deprived mind, but reading the "Nice boat!" line at 4AM was hilarious).We get to learn more about the newer characters in this volume, all are better developed than they were before, so this is the volume that will probably let you decided if you like the new cast (I personally miss the old characters, but their cameos make up for the lack of some of them).Translation is great, and the index in the back is practically necessary for any reader. While I got a good portion of the jokes without it, Genshiken has always thrived on Anime in-jokes. If you were already a fan of the series, this should make you happy knowing that some things don't change.All in all, I am completely satisfied with this second volume. While I miss the old cast, the new characters are interesting, and they take the series in a fun new direction while still being true to the original. Highly recommended.As with all series like this, make sure you read the previous volumes before this one... including the original Genshiken series. While the reboot is pretty good in explaining things, I imagine it wouldn't be near as enjoyable without knowledge of what came before.

It is both funny and poignant and I really don't want to wait six months for the next installment!I don't want to go against the other reviewers, but the second season is in no way a reboot (one of those overused "cool" words for anything from starting a pc to changing your shoes) of the series. It is a direct continuation, hence the chapter numbering, with a new crop of club members whose tastes in popular culture are different than the first seasons.Once again, if you are new to Genshiken, you should look at the first series since it will help you better understand what is going on; especially with returning "cast" members. There are omnibus editions out that will let you do so on a budget.Genshiken Omnibus 1: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture I also recommend the video series as well. I found it pretty complementary to the manga. There is a complete set available for that as well which includes the ovas that were originally made with the Kuji-Un series.Genshiken DX: TV Series One & OVA Collection

Mai The new generation of Genshiken are fleshed out as the head out to Comiket, and some new and old faces appear withing the pages of this novel.The interesting part of this is how much more contemporary the joke references are in here. While not much time has passed between Season 1 and 2 within the universe, quite a bit has gone by in the actual publications. This will relate to newer readers who are also younger anime/manga fans, while the veterans will catch on to both old and new jokes. The greatest asset to this volume like with the last is the translator's notes, just in case reference could not be discerned (and it provides a platform for people to find what the characters are talking about!).My sole complaint so far has been just the character Kuchiki. I cannot just get any good vibes from him, and he's the only remaining male member, too. However, with the progression of events in Vol.2, no doubt Madarame will have a greater role, which I can appreciate.

Wish I had this to read when my kids were young By Jan Bentley Very quick and easy read...This book is loaded with practical information regarding parents' roles in raising children who are responsible, compassionate and Christian adults. Pam has included the dos and dont's of parenting with a twist of humor. It is easy to see oneself in this book if you are raising or have raised kids. I love the coaching perspective. It is only through taking a good look at yourself and answering the hard questions can you win at possibly the hardest job...parenting. Way to go, Pam. You nailed it!

A perfect mediation between the Bible verses, personal experiences and insight made it very relatable from the reader’s perspective. I would most definitely recommend this book to people from all demographics. Pam does an excellent job illuminating the fact that nobody is perfect but if you can instead focus in on channeling your inner Faith than you will undeniably succeed. I LOVED IT!!

Lots of action and sensuality--Dirk is so intense and yet when he's near Isobel the heat crackles and his defenses fall. The romance brought a smile to my face, I got chills, the whole nine yards! This might be my favorite of all three books in the Highland Adventure series. Well done, Ms. Sinclair! And I can't wait to read the next one!

By fourleafclover23 I've loved the other two books in Vonda Sinclair's Highlander series and so I was excited when I heard a new book in the series was coming out. This book is amazing! So worth the wait. I think it's my favorite in the series so far. Ms. Sinclair is a phenomenal writer with an impressive knowledge of Scotland and Scottish history. This makes her writing not only incredibly interesting but highly atmospheric. I also love the way she's worked the old Scottish marriage customs into the plot. This story delves deep into the complicated lives of two people who have fate, and enemies, working against them at every turn to keep them apart. These obstacles create mystery, intrigue and suspense and keep the story moving forward, and kept me reading. But what I found more intriguing is how the suspense rolls over to the romance between Dirk and Isobel. This is one of the most romantic romances I've ever read.Ms. Sinclair has a true talent for making her heroes powerful and fearsome while also human and vulnerable, and charmingly romantic. That is what sexy is all about IMO. Dirk is no exception. I loved how tough yet vulnerable he was and how determined he was to forge his own path despite numerous obstacles and dangers. The same holds true for her heroin, Isobel, who only wants to maintain some control over her life instead of being used as a pawn by her brother and others. She is a strong, yet genuine, sympathetic character, and never seems too modern or like a time-traveler from the 21st century, which I often find in historical romances.Atmospheric, suspenseful, romantic, and even educational, this book is a page-turner and will not disappoint. I hope there will be many more in the series!

By Bitten by Romance Vonda Sinclair never fails to entertain you with a page turning adventure and a sizzling romance. With her vivid imagination you'll find her characters and story flows excellent together. This book is part of a series but they are all standalones.I read the all three books in this series now and really enjoyed them, but this one has turned out to be my favorite of them all. I was engrossed with the story and romance between the hero and heroine, I just couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next. I hope that Jessie will one day get a story and Robbie too. There are so many great characters in this series I can see the author making it grow years to come. I highly recommend this to any romance reader.

Great resource By Todd M Inserra It seems like the art of defending ones faith has become lost in the world of everyone being right but with no real truth. Christians need to understand why they believe what they do, especially in a time of such opposition to their beliefs. This book by Brian Seagraves has come at a perfect time. I would recommend and feel comfortable giving this book to any believer, no matter how new or old they are to the faith. Seagraves doesn't just give the usual step by step reasons why Christians should believe but rather he makes real arguments and teaches how Christians should be able to discuss real questions with non believers. I believe this book can equip Christians to better articulate the faith without sounding like robots. Go through this book in your Bible study, small group, or just read it on your own. You won't be disappointed.

Hana Shares a Very Personal Story By Anne L Corn This personal story is from a Mom who shares her experiences with her daughter's birth, search for a diagnosis, and learning what it is to be a Mom of a child with albinism. What is unique about this story is how Hana Schank reveals so much of what has been going through her own mind. So many, many parents have shared similar stories with me and I believe Hana Schank's telling her story brings the reader, whether a medical professional, an educator, a family member, or someone who wants to read about this very human experience, into her life and the life of her family. Without a doubt, you will want to read it in one sitting.

I am one of the other parents of a child with albinism mentioned in this story (I knew when I saw that Hana had written this that I would be) and I was quick to read it to find out a bit more about her story.It's a heart felt well told account of the first years.If you are a new parent of a child with albinism or are researching the condition - this is a must read!

Now Amazon carries a new edition, but for sentimental reasons, I prefer this old edition with the original jacket. I discovered it back in 1967, as a teenager on my first job as an assistant at the local branch library. My taste in books was adult then, and I relished this story of three eccentrics who come out of nowhere to sell Instant Gold. The effects on the government, free enterprise, and the global economy are amusing, to say the least. This short novel has a little romance, a little mystery, and lots of dry wit. Treat yourself to it! Enjoy!

Benshir Originally my older brother's book, I read it many times until it was given away by our parents when we moved. I searched for a copy for many years without success, hoping to share with my own children. This simple little book presents an overview of economics, capitalism, politics and how they all intertwine, in a sassy story understandable by younger readers. They will find the characters strange and dated, but the message is timeless and the writing entertaining. I am buying another copy today to share with my grown son, an economist working for the US government! Maybe I had better buy two copies - I'm not likely to get one back.

Mark clearly lays out the Biblical emphasis for fasting and the testimonies given in the book will make you want to jump on board immediately. Our youth leaders have recently read the book and are now dedicating Mondays to prayer and fasting for our church and youth ministry department. This is a must read for everyone!

Let me simply say that after reading hundreds of books on prayer and a few on fasting, this is by far the best book on fasting I've ever come across. It is inspiring, accessible, biblically very sound, and highly practical. Find a copy that you can afford; you can read it in a few hours--it's short and to the point--and if you apply it, your life will be changed powerfully.

A sign of quality in fiction that has never let me down is simply the three words, "by Caleb Pirtle"The man is a master storyteller, an artisan in a profession that used to have many and unfortunately, today, has very few.Secrets of the Dead is one of his best, but then, every book he has ever written is "one of his best."Without spoiling the story, I'll simply say two things about this novel:1. La Vigne Caleb Pirtle III has painted a picture of what could have happened on both sides of the Atlantic in the years just prior to Hitler's march into eastern European countries. Throughout his story, he uses neutral colors of gray, white, black, pale, ashen to help define the oppression of the Nazi movement, especially against the Jewish population in Baden-Baden, Germany. He describes the horror of Kristalnacht, or as it's called in the book, Night of Broken Glass. The story progresses through settings in Dallas, Baden-Baden, and Washington, D.C. At the crux of the story are five undeveloped rolls of film. During the Nazi terrorism on the Night of Broken Glass, businesses not only had their storefront windows smashed, but young men were dragged off not to be seen again, old people tortured and killed, young women raped, and children left to fend for themselves. Benjamin Gruner, a local photographer, was determined that the world would see what was happening. He took his camera, hid where he could, and began taking pictures of as much of the action as time would allow. His daughter, Rachel, confiscated the rolls of film after her father died. Ambrose Lincoln and Rachel have a mission--to make sure the film never falls into enemy hands, but finds its way to America and publication in the news. The reason? To refute the political propaganda being foisted on the world outside of Germany. The author takes the reader on a powerful journey of suspense as Ambrose and Rachel spend their nights trying to escape the death hunt of Nazi soldiers. They meet people Rachel has known from childhood in her Jewish community that can or cannot be trusted to help them. They learn that fabricating their stories is the only life-saving way to survive.. Even the weapons they carry hidden on their person are no guarantee for safety. On the other side of the Atlantic, we meet Atticus Chandler, an unpaid advisor to President Franklin Roosevelt. Atticus has business interests in Germany which would cost him millions of dollars if the films are developed and land in the American press. Neither the President nor Atticus want the United States to go to war with Germany, and do what they can to avoid a breakdown that could lead them right into Hitler's fight. The question the reader asks is what happened to the rolls of film? Caleb Pirtle gives us a powerful story as he develops a sequence of events that lead to an ending totally unimagined. His effective use of dialogue, its clipped sentence structure, his vivid description of each character, surpass the reader's imagination. Through it all, he makes the reader wonder who owns the harsh, brittle voice that Ambrose hears in his mind throughout the book?There is periodically the ray of hope shining throughout that can be symbolized by the author's use of moonlight breaking through the black night of clouds. The ray may be bright or it may be a sliver of light. And Ambrose periodically has a vision of a woman-ghostly though she may be, but his strength to continue in his quest comes through the words she speaks to him.Secrets of the Dead will bring a tear to the eye, tension to the nerves, and hope in the heart of the reader.

The reader gets introduced to the novel's main character Ambrose Lincoln, who at that moment attends his beautiful young wife's funeral. That alone would be tragic; what creates suspense is that Ambrose does not know how she died. He also does not ask. By the time we find out that he cannot remember ever having met his parents we want to know: What is Ambrose's secret?Ambrose is an assassin, and that is all his life revolves around. He is a perfect tool for his employers; he cannot remember too much from his prior life. When memories come up, he cannot remember to which phase of his life they belong. Methodically he follows instructions. He does not ask any questions. Then again, assassins never do. The ones, who ask a question find out that they asked one question too many.The book's story retells the historic events of the Reichkristallnacht. A photographer has managed to take pictures depicting the horrors the Jewish population experiences. If the pictures surface the money wheeling and dealings of major power players will be threatened. Ambrose Lincoln is supposed to solve the latter's problems.As a history buff I appreciated the fine presentation of the historic events, as a fan of spy novels I had met some of Pirtle's characters before, the long-legged blonde, the sarcastic evaluator, the deadly sniper, but Pirtle's writing style and rhythm were new and fascinating. This author reminds us of things we already knew, only we never thought about them this way. His language is enticing:*"His head throbbed. A sharp pain cut into his chest. Indigestion, he thought. It couldn't be his heart. Atticus laughed. He didn't have a heart. That's what his enemies said anyway."*"She smiled. On the list of things she did best, the smile was third."*"He knew which hands to shake. He knew which cheeks to kiss. He knew the names of the big money boys. It was his job to know where they kept their skeletons and the deadliest of their dark secrets. Some he had personally removed and hidden for them. Atticus Chandler never dug any graves, but he chose the cemeteries."*Highly recommended to history buffs, spy novel fans, and crossword puzzle solvers.
