Review "It's a powerful glimpse into one woman's quest for happiness. Robyn will yank on your heartstrings one moment and then tickle your funny bone the next. Hang on for the ride!"     -Alex J. Cavanaugh, Author of the best-selling Cassa series and Dragon of the Stars"I was so moved by her writing, I shared it with my husband. He was so deeply touched, he was unable to speak for a long time. He took what Robyn wrote to heart and made the changes that needed to be made...The transformation has been amazing." -Elsie Amata, Blogger, Mock Turtle Musings"Woman on the Verge is clever, sarcastic, and darkly funny, but above that, it's heartfelt. It's a refreshingly honest look at the mythical fairytale romance, and if it doesn't tug on your heartstrings or make you laugh out loud then you clearly do not have a human soul."         -Bryan Pedas, Blogger, A Beer for the Shower

From the Author This anti-fairytale story of my life includes overflowing cupfuls of honesty and scattered pinches of creative liberty. It's 100% true and 100% creative. We'll call it creative non-fiction. If you like memoir, we'll say it's one. I don't, so I'll call it memoir-ish.I do not recommend this book for:(1) Children(2) The Narrow-minded or(3) Martha Stewart

From the Inside Flap Dedication:To the readers of my blog, Life by Chocolate, You have been unfaltering in your loyalty, caring, encouragement, hilarity, and playfulness. And so, my dear sillies,This one's for you.Lovingly.

Confident and Strong Things Come in Small Packages By Joanne Ms. Engel is definitely on the verge of paradise as she unapologetically journeys her way through life, death, love and chocolate. It's hilarious one minute, then gut wrenchingly sad the next. Her writing style draws you in immediately, and you can't help but continue for another chapter, then another, then another. . . and so the vicious cycle. Her story is essentially one of an unsure little girl, not really knowing her place in her own family's dynamics, and, hence, not knowing her place in life. She battles with first crushes, first loves, friends, death, personal demons, dating (which provides a hilarious point of view into online dating), marriage, divorce . . . the whole gamut. You feel a sort of camaraderie with Ms. Engel because you realize, yes, you've been through, or are going through, some of the same things in your life. You can't help but root for her, to let her know everything's gonna be okay, and that whatever doesn't kill ya will make you stronger. Spoiler alert: she comes out just fine in the end, battle scars and all. She may be small in stature, but her roar, towards the end of the book, is strong and confident.

Clever, heartfelt, and darkly funny By Knox Kingston Woman on the Verge is a story that I think we all can relate to in some way or another - not quite fitting in, wondering about our place in this world, and questioning if happiness really is just right around the corner. This is deep stuff for a humor novel, but don't let that fool you, because it is laugh out loud funny. It just makes you think and gives you something to feel while you're laughing.Woman on the Verge is love, loss, and everything in between as told by someone who may not quite realize how strong and resilient she is. But that's the charm, because Engel doesn't make herself out to be the heroine. On the exterior, she's an ordinary person fighting through the perils of life and questioning the "happily ever after" our fairy tales have promised us, but the way she faces these issues and comes to accept her own life is what makes her and her story anything but ordinary.

Years ago, our kids had inflatable punching toys that kinda looked like Bozo the clown. No matter how hard or fast the kids bopped Bozo and toppled him over, he'd immediately pop back up again, still starry-eyed, and still smiling.Well, Robyn bounces back kinda like that, too, and though life has delivered her more than a few sucker punches, she's still wearing a smile. And better yet, her sense of humor allows us to smile along with her. But alas, this little human dynamo no longer has stars in her eyes. She stopped believing in fairy tales a long time ago, and no longer expects Prince Charming to come charging up on a white horse to sweep her off her feel and gallop off into the sunset with her to live happily ever after. Now, if some handsome dude came charging up to her on a horse, she'd probably expect said horse to poop on her feet.Yes, she's had her share of disappointments and heartbreaks, and so far, none of the frogs she's met through online dating has turned into a prince. Or even a normal guy. But her adventures and misadventures do make for some entertaining reading. She may break your heart a little, but she'll also make you laugh. A painful thirteen-month marriage, and years of hopeful searching for That Special Someone have taught her that happiness isn't a gift someone else can give her; she has to find it within herself. A gal like this definitely deserves her happily ever after, and I hope she finds it. I want her to find that paradise.Four and a half stars, rounded up to five.
