Beth' s boyfriend signs up for the army , much to her disappointment. When Garan, leaves for his assignment in the army , she decides to move. And doesn't tell him thst she is pregnant. She leaves her German town in Texas and heads to Abilene, Texas. She soon finds work at a department store owned by the Collins family . Beth becomes friends with Agnes a member of the Collins family. When they discover that Beth is pregnant and alone, they graciously open their home to her. They believe she is a widow who lost her husband during an accident in the army.What no one knows is that Beth is living a lie. Because she was so angry that Garn enlisted , she stopped writing to him. She can't forgive him for leaving her and her bitterness drives her to deceive people who care about her. What happens when she goes with her friend Agnes to the homecoming of her twin brother Alfred and his friend Smitty?The story is rich in history and characters that deal with forgiveness and overcoming mistakes. The author writes a beautiful story that takes you back to an era where struggles abounded and family was important. She gives her characters emotional twists and turns and find themselves seeking help to find their way back to their faith and trust in God.The book is filled with a patriotic theme that ends on the celebration of Flag Day. Thank you for a moving story that shows how lies can change the course of a person's life and how forgiveness from a town and those who love them give them hope and peace in a loving God.

Roof In June, 1917 - Elsbeth Koch changes her name to Beth Smith and moves from her family and home, in the highly German town of New Brandenburg, Texas, to Abilene, Texas - seeking work. She secures work at Collins department store and becomes friends with the owner's daughter, Agnes Collins. The Collins family takes her in as "one of their own" after Beth tells them she is pregnant and a war widow - her husband having died in a training accident.However, Beth is living a life of lives. Disagreeing over her boyfriend Garan's decision to enlist in the military, she has responded to only one of his many letters and he is unaware of her pregnancy. Beth accompanies Agnes to the homecoming of Agnes' twin brother Alfred and his friend, Smitty (whose attractions Agnes has been dreaming of) - both flying aces thought shot down over Germany toward the end of the war. Imagine Beth's shock upon discovering that Smitty is actually Garan Schmidt - the father of her toddler daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" Smith! Although Garan loves Beth and has asked forgiveness from God, he and Beth each still wrestle with the consequences of their past actions - the shame and possible disapproval from family and friends with the revelation of Beth's secret, and their relationships with God challenged due to their uncertainty that they have truly been forgiven by Him.Author Darlene Franklin paints a beautiful, touching story of romance, prejudice, the aftermath of war, hope, forgiveness, and a loving God. I loved it and became engrossed in it's characters, war references, and the prejudice for German-Americans. "Love's Glory" is book 3 in Darlene's Holiday of the Heart Collection, ends with a celebration of Flag Day (also the day of the book's release), and is based on the scripture verse Psalm 60:4- "Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah."

I felt like I was right there beside the characters as I read their story. Elsbeth and Garan were great friends when he was called off to war. Shortly after, Elsbeth found out she was pregnant and to avoid shame from her family and community, she left to start a new life for her and her baby. After the war, Garan returns and meets up with Elsbeth, when her an her friend, Agnes goes to meet her twin brother Alfred coming home from the war. Will Garan and Elsbeth rekindle their feelings, will Garan come to learn that Elsbeth's daughter, Dottie, is his daughter and if so, will he want to be a part of her life of just walk away?This is a very good, but short book that I hated to see come to an end. I really enjoyed this book and recommend to anyone that wants a complete romance, but is a quick, short read. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my complete and honest review.
