Right from the beginning of Spoken From the Heart; Parenting 101 Vol. 4 she starts with Day 1: I Was Wrong. Now the road she takes is a bit different than the road I am taking, but how many times as parents do we know we have been wrong? Tens? Hundreds? Thousands? Well in my house it is thousands (and it is often pointed out, gracefully, by a nine year old boy that I have been wrong many times). Parenting is hard, but Ms. Swalwell’s book gives hope. There are so many things I liked about this book. Here are a few:1. Day 21: Mom’s Not to Blame…And Neither is God – Part II (pg 75). She says “yesterday I shared how mothers are sometimes falsely accused for the choices their children make. Today, I’d like to discuss how I believe society is so quick to falsely accuse God for the pain of this world.” Yep, I had to keep reading.2. Day 24: I Finally Looked Up (pg. 83-84). “My kids and I were at the grocery store last Friday and there was a woman there with two children, one of whom was having a major meltdown. Most of us, if not all, have experienced that at some point in public… or will. My mother heart wanted to reach out and help her, but I didn’t. I didn’t know what to do”…………”So I stayed silent”………….People (my word) “are doing their best to cope with their circumstances in life. So…what does my interaction with them speak to their hearts? Do they leave an encounter with me feeling more hopeful or do I add to their stress?” “My goal is to remember to look up from my own circumstances at those around me and consider their feelings, their needs, their situations.” ………”I may be the only example of Jesus they experience. I want to make sure I’m showing the best example, the most loving example of God, possible.” AMEN to that Ms. Swalwell.3. There is so much more to this book; Day 5: I Learn More from My Kids, Part I; Day 10--A Rousing Game of……….; Day 11: No More Drama for This Mama.Yes, I really enjoyed this book. It is short and can be read in one sitting, if you choose and is a book to keep coming back to. Thank you Ms. Swalwell for this wonderful book.I was given this book by bookfun.org in exchange for my honest review.

It is an easy read based on everyday encounters with Cheri's three children and how she used them to teach some important truths and lessons. But it is also about God using some of these encounters to teach her as well. Cheri will also share how some of these lessons were originally learned from Jesus and how they are applicable to each one of us.There are 32 chapters, so you can read one a day, monthly doubling up as needed, or right through in one setting. Either way I am sure you will be blessed. I really liked that Scripture shared was from the NIV or the Message, which can really give you a new fresh view on verses we may have known since childhood. Great choice!!Some of the great chapters that spoke to me are: "It's your job!" where her then four year old says, "But, Mom, that's your job. Your favorite job. You said so." pg. 12"No fillers...only the real thing!" Two basic, important lessons to be learned are 1. start each day with God and 2. remember there are only 24 hours, use them carefully, wiselyThere are so many good things in here that we as adults, not just parents, but aunts/uncles, godparents, grandparents, etc. can learn from I strongly suggest you pick it up for yourself and see if you don't agree.Thank you to bookfun.org and Cheri Swalwell for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Great advice for parents or parents-to-be By Cindy J Cheri Swalwell delivers good, solid parenting advice from a Christian perspective in Spoken From the Heart: Parenting 101 Vol. 4. The book is written as a devotional divided into 32 days. Each day has a topic with a personal story to go along with and reinforce the topic. Most days begin with a scripture verse from the Bible (NIV and The Message) and at least touch on the eternal results of parenting not just the earthly results. The topics and comments challenge parents to examine their priorities and parenting methods, encourage them to persevere in the trying times, or sometimes both challenge and encourage. The plan of salvation and message of grace is also well presented on a couple of the days. While I read the book straight through rather than as a devotional, it would be best read in small daily chunks to allow for thought and meditation on that day’s subject. As with any book containing advice, not everything applied to my life, but almost every day had at least some portion addressed to me, while several days could have been written directly to me. I believe any parent could benefit from some portion of the information within this book. I would definitely recommend this book to any parent (or parent-to-be) who wants to raise children who will have a close relationship with their Heavenly Father as well as with their earthly family.I received a copy of this book through The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.
