About the Author Richard Corben was born on a farm in Anderson, Missouri, and went on to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Kansas City Art Institute, in 1965.After working as a professional animator, Corben started doing underground comics, including Grim Wit, Slow Death, Skull, Rowlf, Fever Dreams and his own anthology Fantagor. In 1970 he began illustrating horror and science-fiction stories for Warren Publishing. His stories appeared in Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella, 1984 and Comix International. He also colored several episodes of Will Eisner's Spirit. In 1975, when Moebius, Druillet, and Jean-Pierre Dionnet started publishing the magazine Métal Hurlant in France, Corben submitted some of his stories to them. He continued his work for the franchise in America, where the magazine was called Heavy Metal. In 1976 he adapted a short Robert E. Howard story in Bloodstar. In 2012 he was elected to the The Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame. The author lives in Shawnee, KS.

Art God Richard Corben By Stephen Vincent Kempton Richard Corben is one of those working masters of American Comics who doesn't get neatly the recognition he deserves. For almost 50 years Richard Corben has been doing some of the best of Science Fiction , Fantasy and Horror Comics in the Industry.Now Dark Horse collects his newest work a five issue mini-series released early in 2015 now collected in this inexpensive (under $20) Beautiful Hard Cover collection which features all the covers plus pre-production sketches and other material. Corben is assisted by his daughter Beth Corben Reed who did much of the air brush coloring.While the date of the story is never given it appears to be set in the 1920's. It is set in the winter in Massachusetts. The lead protagonist is named Clark Elwood , a racist and self-absorbed college student. Clark falls for a odd looking but voluptuous young woman at the college. When Clark finds her doing nude modeling she flees back to her back woods home town named Lame Dog. Once Clark reaches the town things turn horrifically gruesome.The stories features all the Corben Standards with Nudity, Sex , Violence and Horror. The story successfully mixes the Native American legends and mythos with that of H P Lovecraft. This book is definitely not recommend for children.I hope some day Richard Corben returns to his ground breaking legendary series DEN and we get a comprehensive Hard Cover Collection, but in the meantime enjoy his latest creation.Highly Recommended.

By dr.martyfever I've been a fan of Mr.Corben for over 40 years and greatly enjoy his work including his newest offering .Everything you have come to expect in his art work and story telling is present in "Rat God".Having said that,I thought the story had a few loose ends that were never cleared up that detracted from the narrative.For one, the character Chuk has the ability to change into a panther but appears to be the only denizen of Lame Dog to be able to do this.How did he come to have this unique ability? No explanation is ever given. How did Zedon Peck become the leader of Lame Dog what with him being an outsider ? And why do some the citizens of Lame Dog appear rat- like themselves? If there was some sort of interbreeding going on its never mentioned.Just a few of questions that came to mind as I was reading.

Time for Rich to go totally nuts and blow our minds with his Odd comic worlds. put it together, make the printing old school Corben gorgeous and get us fans to crowd fund it.
