Clearly this author knows the absolute chaos of a household dealing with the intense needs of an autistic child. I can't think of a book format that would be easier for me to read as I can snatch a few minutes here and there. The short format of 100 different situations or questions gives me the best chance of being able to absorb the very helpful advice in little snippets. I was also pleasantly surprised at so much information given for all different age ranges. She is so honest about the challenges while offering hope at the same time. We do much better when we can accept reality without the trap of hopelessness. If there is one thing any parent of an autistic child should know it is the fact that you never know how much that child can do successfully as long as the parents aren't seeing the future as dark and gloomy with no hope. Thanks, Katherine - this gem of a book will be a lot of help to our home for years to come!

A Good Resource for Parents With Autistic Children By Amazon Customer Those who don't know much about autism can view children afflicted as a burden but these children are in fact full of color and life. The author present the illness in a way that helps dispel many of the common misconceptions held about autistic children.For parents who have not dealt with this issue before, the book offers wonderful insights on how to deal with a variety of situations that can occur in a household with an autistic child. She gives readers a realistic look into how to relate to children as well as those who fall on the spectrum. There are several suggestions that help parents, loved ones, and caregivers deal with the challenges surrounding raising a autistic child while providing encouragement at the same time.The title is short enough that you can read it on the go, but long enough to cover all the basics for those with no previous experience with the condition.

By Abigail Buras When I read the first paragraph of the introduction for this book, I immediately realized that this author has a realistic view of autism. That alone gave me hope since it clearly isn’t one of those books with the “discovery” of a “cure” for this incurable condition. Didn’t take me long to understand the author has great advice to share from experience that will hopefully make our journey of coping with autism easier. Since caring for my autistic niece is so very time consuming at this stage, we especially appreciate how it is arranged into 100 questions and answers that are easy to read a little at a time or return to as needed further down the road.

Unlike other financial books I have read, this book is easy to read, easy to relate to, and chock-full of resources that we all need to know about. I’m doing a great job saving for retirement, but Marcia’s book makes it clear that there is much more to be done before I’ll be ready to retire. She gets you thinking, keeps you laughing, and gives you some great documents where you can really map out what your retirement will be like.Randi Bussin

Easy-to-read financial primer By Craig Adamson Marcia has done a great job of capturing the spirit of many different conversations she has had with consumers and her research in educating and marketing to them -specifically women.I know Marcia personally so I can attest to her passion on the subject matter. She writes just like she talks -in a friendly, caring way, but also as a very knowledgeable person who is a bit frantic about the lack of attention American women are putting on this very important topic. This was a fun book for me to read because I can totally hear her voice from start to finish. So this is definitely not some mind-numbing financial tome. Not that she could write something weightier, its just that Marcia knows it is important to keep things light and fun so it doesn't scare her readers away from taking action. This is an easy-to-read and engaging starting point for a woman who has always promised her self she was "going to learn about this stuff one day."As an advisor, I know first-hand how often women tend to defer to their husbands on financial issues -especially on investments. Or worse, have purposely ignored retirement because it was easier to procrastinate by focusing more on running their household than taking stock of the future. Where it becomes emotional and scary for so many women is when they go through a divorce or health scare in their mid-to-late 50's. Reality instantly becomes their constant companion and worst enemy. Paralysis sets in if they don't already have a trusted advisor to work with. And their lack of confidence and basic knowledge in this area leaves them open to scams.This book is going to be most helpful to women who have always meant to make time to learn more or to start their retirement savings journey. The intent is to get you thinking and to motivate you to action, not embarrass you for lack of knowledge or throw up your hands in surrender. Stop with the excuses and read this book today. Even if you aren't a fast reader, this book won't take long to knock out. As I said before, Marcia is a warm person and it comes through in the way she writes. It will likely take an average reader 4 hours (if you break it up in 30 minutes a day for a week to eight days) to read it. If you are an avid reader like me you can do so much faster... I read it cover to cover on a 90 minute plane ride.This book is going to help a lot of well-meaning women begin making great decisions in 2015.

It's filled with messages that ring true and advice that is concrete and easy to follow. The book has messages for any woman who is managing money, whether for a household or from a first job, or a long-term career. We should all become financially literate and Marcia helps us get there.

Hannah's experience makes her an excellent ally for people living in the autism era and her humor and sense of self are clearly presented in her book. Her discussion of diagnoses, life, death, consciousness, and the individual rights of all humans to embody their whole selves are important concepts for all people whether you're parenting, teaching, or just trying to live in the autism era. Her thorough discussions of language and how it influences the way we think about and treat other people is well worth the read. Inspiring and supportive.

My daughter brings bible to our church’s Sunday school and she will definitely be delighted to bring this one instead. I am not familiar with the NIrV version but as I scan through it, I can see that the verses are translated to words that young kids will find more understandable. I just wished that the paper used for bible pages were a bit thicker considering that kids are the primary target readers of this version of the bible but it is not really an issue considering that they managed to keep the weight and thickness of this bible manageable despite the large fonts used. As for the 365-day devotional, I think that kids will like them because the readings are just short and are accompanied by colorful illustrations. Please note that I was not required to give a positive review of the product regardless of the fact that I received it free for review purposes.

The Beginner’s Bible uses the New International Reader’s Version which is easy for young children to comprehend and apply. It has large font and a line down the center of each page creating a column effect for ease in following along and for reading. At the beginning of each book there is an introduction section that briefly explains what the book is about as well as providing an outline of content for the book. Also included are fun colorful pictures depicting different stories such as Jonah and the big fish and Joshua and the battle of Jericho. However, it must be noted that the pictures are clearly out of order, for instance the Jonah picture is in the middle of the book of Psalms and Y'shua as a boy speaking at the Temple is in the middle of the book of Jeremiah. This could be confusing for young readers. At the back of the Bible a small dictionary is provided that defines key words and people found throughout the Bible. There is also a checklist provided so that young readers can easily find the major stories in the Bible, read them, and then check them off the list. Other than the pictures being out of order The Beginner’s Bible is a great choice for young children.The Beginner’s Kid-Sized Devotions is a 365 day devotional that can be used on its own or in combination with the Bible. It provides young readers a snapshot of different stories throughout the Bible and focuses in on the lessons within those stories. Each page is its own devotional in which you can find the scripture that day is focusing on, a short insight into that scripture that is easy for children to understand and apply, a colorful picture depicting part of the story, a highlighted truth to apply about G-d or about the story, and lastly at the bottom of each page is short praise/prayer to end the devotion with. It's a beautiful hardcover edition. Unlike other Bibles it doesn't spend too much time on extraneous material--there's a two-page Q&A on "Getting to Know Jesus", a four-page preface about the version of the Bible (the New International Reader's Version), and then you go right into Genesis. In the back of the Bible there's a short eight-page dictionary and then a six-page list of "150 famous Bible stories" with the verses you can flip to. There's a book introduction and an outline before each book that nicely sets it up. I was a little surprised to see the lack of maps, the one thing that as a child kept me awake during so many long sermons.The highlight of this Bible, of course, are the full-color cartoon pictures. Every 100-150 pages or so there's an insert with a detailed cartoon illustration in the style the Beginner's Bible is known for--sort of comical illustrations of people with big round googly eyes. What they lack in any kind of theological significance they certainly make up for in capturing the attention of very young children, although they're the sort of thing that kids will quickly grow out of.The version of the Bible, the nIRV, is one I wasn't familiar with before, but it follows along the same lines of the Living Bible and the Good News Bible of trying to paraphrase the Word into simple, accessibly, easy-to-understand language. Because the translation was based on the NIV (which itself was intended to be easier to read), it does a fairly good job at being both easy-to-read and accurate to the text. Since the NIV itself is already quite simple, it's really up to you and your child's language level as to whether you want to give them this version. I do like how where it doesn't try to inject a layer of interpretation to verses with more difficult-to-understand concepts, but simply rewrite the verses in simpler English, still leaving it up to the reader to do his or her own interpretation.Overall this Bible is an excellent "first Bible" for your child. He or she likely won't read it cover-to-cover, but it's nice to know that the whole thing is there if he or she ever needs it.The "Kid-Sized Devotionals" that comes in this bundle was a little less impressive. On the surface it sounds like a great idea--365 bite-sized readings along with a prayer and a Bible verse, copiously decorated with Beginner's Bible illustrations. The main problem is that you can kind of tell that they put all their work into the cartoon illustrations (which are excellent) and seemingly "phoned in" the devotional text itself. Each "devotional" isn't really a devotional but just a part of a Bible story. This would be fine, but each "day" is also only about 3 sentences long, making for a very short reading each day that isn't likely to stick with the child nor pique his or her interest. Likewise, the "prayer" consists only of a short 5-7 word sentence. I find I have to read a couple "days" at a time to engage the child.Overall, the whole bundle gets 3.5 stars; the Bible is well made and the cartoons are engaging, so it's no wonder it's been a best-seller. But as they try to extend their brand, I do think they need to put a little more effort into understanding the substance of what makes things like devotionals "work" and not just go through the motions of what sounds good in a boardroom.

By David Arango I gave this book to my niece and she was interested the whole way through, she asked questions and its now her favorite book. I love that because it's so educational and taught her good values, but in an easy way for her to understand because it is set for child to easily understand it with simple vocabulary and is told in a story that my niece could relate with and I imagine many other kids. I love this book and I highly recommend it.

It supports living a reflective life about your marriage by examining all assumptions by which a couple lives. It talks about several different types of marriages that can fail in the long haul: the pleasure marriage, the sexual marriage, and the competitive marriage, to name three. The author recommends building a strong sense of "we." However, that "we" can't be based on emotionally passive engagement or inappropriate dependence. Couples have to learn how to deal with difficulty and take responsibility. This is a very thought provoking book for any couple thoughtful couple trying to clarify exactly what a future marriage is actually about for them.Sanford has 4 other equally useful and thought provoking books for couples.
