How long does it take to realize a dream? Wheat is an epic five generational story that begins with one man's dream of building an empire of wheat and cattle. 17 year old Upton Rush leaves the blizzard plagued Ohio Valley for the newly formed Oklahoma Territory. The harsh elements, combined with lawless men, curtail his dream. Having passed the dream to his son, Harlin, and his grandson, Gavin, the dream lives on when Gavin falls in love with a girl named Teal whose passion for the land and its wheat grows an empire.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Oklahoma story By Sue Adams An interesting blend of fact and fiction, this book tells the story of settlers in Oklahoma's Indian Territory before and after statehood. The reader will care about the characters and the details of their everyday pioneer life. This book has the best defense of the wheat farmer, and his problems, that one can find. It also has an index for handy reference. Anyone interested in history--and especially Oklahomahistory--will find this book fascinating.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Heart warming and heart breaking at the same time By Marilynn Penwright A truthful look at the Oklahoma pioneer: his risks and successes. Heartwarming are the relationships formed, but also heartbreaking due to dust bowl conditions. You get a real feel for the way things were for previous generations and the will of iron one had to make a better life for future generations.
