By Amazon Customer Brenda’s writing style is direct and purposeful, as she shares her life’s experiences. This book is a must read for anyone facing challenges, especially those that seem “unfair”. Brenda teaches us that life is not fair, and that all of us are faced with the opportunity to overcome obstacles if we keep our focus on God, family, and hard work. She teaches us that the true test of character lies within our reaction to difficult times. Most of us naturally react in a positive way to positive influences, but when things become difficult and seem unfair, she shows us that this is our opportunity to rise above and build our character using strong moral fiber and reliance on God as the foundation. Brenda boldly acknowledges her faith and shows great courage in sharing the pain and personal triumphs along the path that shaped her life. The reader is taken on a journey that evokes emotion, and inspires us to view trials in our own life from a different perspective. She challenges us to look at ourselves with introspect at the conclusion of each chapter, and the reader is left with a sense of spiritual and emotional growth. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Powerful Personal Guide to Life By FHCJULIUS Mrs Newberry's book is incredibly inspirational, educational and purposeful. I found myself captivated by what challenges she and her husband, Maurice Newberry, would encounter next. Not only did she draw the reader into her life's experiences but she shared insights into how she dealt with incredible obstacles in very practical ways. Ways that anyone with the motivation and moral fiber could follow. Her candor and straight talk make it even more appealing as one senses the authors openness as she speaks from her heart about racism and the harm it causes. She leaves the reader with a sense that life's wrongs are not the overriding story but rather life's opportunities to over come the wrongs are the high points. Whatever your lot in life, you will benefit from reading this book. It will motivate you to achieve more, to be a better person, a better spouse, a better parent, a better business owner, a better employee, a better employer, a better neighbor and a more trusting follower of God. Changing one's life view is difficult but this book can help you do it.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Where Is Her Next Book!?!? By Blessed Daily Excellent book that embraces life while acknowledging the challenges of being African American. Insightful in that so much racism existed yet was overcome. One problem, it is not about dreams and achievement but about hard work, faith and preparation which resulted in achievement in spite of the "landscape." It highlighted how it is important to accept the distorted "social landscape" and excel in spite of it by going above and beyond while doing "right by others" regardless of how one is treated or not appreciated. For instance; If you don't want to be arrested or mistreated by police, don't commit any crimes. If you are then mistreated anyway, cooperate and then use the processes to address the situation. Become police, attorneys, community organizers, teachers, councilmen etc. Use the system....,navigate. Would love to know how to navigate a 43+ year marriage. Next book?
