I do not have kids and have never gone through divorce- so I look outside to experts. I want to gain insights into aspects of the experience that I do not have, first-hand All too often, the kids become a commodity and a casualty in a divorce. They get fought over, pulled in two directions, and suffer as collateral damage in divorce proceedings and post-marriage.This author really does a nice job. It could probably be simplified as saying- make peace with the circumstances, make peace with the spouse, and make peace and honour the kids—but, as anyone knows… it’s never that simple the steps provided in this book, along with insights and perspectives will really help make the transition through divorce, less bumpy for everyone involved—especially the kids.This book covers topics such as co-parenting, and creating a stable environment etc--- all the little, and big, things that we can often overlook in our own processes and issues. And the author breaks this information down, helping you deal with the different needs of children depending on their ages. A 4 year old is going through a very different process and transition—with different worries and fears- than a teenager.

She sees her parents primarily at "family time" and spends most of her time with the cook and the maid because her governess suffers from "headaches." Imogene doesn't like her governess because she is always finding fault and having Imogene do boring things. Imogene has ambitions. At first, she want to be a veterinarian and take care of race horses. But when a series of thefts happens, she decides that she would like to be a detective like the famous Sherlock Holmes.When her mother's pearls are stolen and Sherlock Holmes is called in on the case, Imogene decides to watch him carefully. He notices and chooses Imogene as his assistant. She is tasked with watching the members of the household. Imogene finds lots of suspicious characters. Is the thief her governess Miss Mullin who is acting suspiciously? Is it Elsie the family maid who shows up on the family floor at a time when she isn't usually there? The cook thinks that the new butler might be the culprit.Imogene meets a young boy named Rusty who runs errands for Sherlock Holmes and he appears at the nick of time to give Imogene help. In fact, the two decide to form their own detective agency.This was a fun mystery for middle graders.

She loves mysteries and avidly follows the cases of Sherlock Holmes in the newspapers. Her dreams of becoming a detective come true when Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson engage her as their assistant in solving the case of her mother’s missing pearls. Imogene keeps a diary of all her suspects, mostly household staff, especially her governess Miss Mullin who hides a secret in her sewing basket. She works hard at solving the mystery, but then she has to go visit her stuffy cousins in Staines for the weekend. How can she solve this mystery?Elizabeth Varaden has crafted an excellent plot that pulls the young reader deep into the story, has them identifying with Imogene, and then examining each page for clues as they read. It is satisfying to know that the genre of mystery books for young people has expanded, including historical mysteries. It gives children more books to choose from and the opportunity to fall in love with reading, which becomes a life-long passion for many. It is recommended that every home and school library have copies of this book for readers 9 years through high school.

It is written quite ordinarily to suggest what geniuses have always maintained that if one couldn't write it simply, then one hasn't got it. The manner in which the mystery of the missing pearl is unveiled is quite perilous. Nonetheless, Sherlock Holmes does it yet again with his usual captivating antics. And this time with Imogen as a protege. The construction of the 19th-century social setting, the plot, the dialogues, all has been dealt with insuperable craftsmanship. The reader is literally pulled into the story from its outset when the cousins' unladylike squabble about the status quo attracts the governess' s stern reprimand. However, no one will ever guess who the real culprit is in this drama of deception.

By EP Bigham Read a draft of "The Family Board Meeting" some time back and thought, "Nice concept, glad it worked for Jim, but my case is different. Probably won't work for me." Out of some level of desperation for trying something new, anything new, I took Jim's principles, applied as directed to my relationships with my grandchildren, and low and behold, it did work--and is still working. My relationships with my grandchildren have turned a positive corner, now not having to "set up" a time together to a "when can we go again" situation. May not work for you, I didn't think it would for me, but it did, and it might for you too. No magic bullet, there is caring work to do, but well worth the time and application for such valuable relationships. I'm on board with the Family Board Meetings. -- Paul

If you want a more loving connection with your child or loved one, you must read this book By Coco If you want a deeper, more loving connection with your child or loved one, you must read this book!!My husband had been doing regular "Board Meetings" with our oldest son (almost 4) for two years now and I would only be a recipient of the anticipatory excitement before each board meeting and then the fun-filled stories after each board meeting. I knew they were special because our oldest son would be incredibly loving to my husband after their time together and he would continually ask when the next one was coming. I had read Jim Sheils' book and became familiar with the steps involved in this strategy. But it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I learned of the power of this very simple, yet immensely effective system. My husband took our youngest son (2 years old) on a board meeting so I decided to have my first official board meeting with our oldest son. Holy cow - after only a few hours of time with our son following the steps outlined in this book I realized what all the hoopla was about. It's not just 1-on-1 time - it's 1-on-1 time on steroids.If you are a parent and want a closer relationship with your child (and what parent wouldn't) you MUST read this book. That love, he says, is the basis for our surrender to God. With that surrender comes desire, and with that desire a willingness to make God, not self, the center of life. Benner admits to his struggles with willfulness, including God's plan for him to write this book instead of the one Benner planned, but he also describes the spiritual transformation he desires and sometimes fully achieves. He quotes often from the spiritual leaders of the past, a refreshing change from some modern authors who reduce God's will to "sin avoidance." His discussion of consolation, the name given by St. Ignatius for the feeling that we are aligned with God, and desolation, the feeling of being far from God, is an interesting and valuable addition to the book. Knowing God's will By FrKurt Messick David Benner states in his epilogue that there is a difference between doing the right 'thing' and following the right 'way'. It is by going the right way that our will is most aligned with God's will for us - it is not something that is simply reducible to a list of things to do, or even a figuring out for particular decisions 'What would Jesus do?' This might have a component in the process, but this is not the entirety of the process.In the Benedictine rule, one of the vows made is conversion of life. This isn't the road to Damascus kind of conversion, and Benner recognises that in the kind of transformation most of us are called to seek. 'Our response to God's presence is not usually the Damascus Road knocked-off-our-feet-and-struck-blind epxerience of Paul (Acts 9:1-9). Typically, God's presence is more subtle, and our reactions are correspondingly attenuated.'Benner discusses the Examen and discernment process of St. Ignatius as a key way of looking at how our will and God's will might work together. The opposite poles of consolation and desolation are highlighted as means by which we can attune ourselves more completely with God's will. This is a very different thing that seeing the idea of following God's will as one more new year's resolution (an analogy Benner draws early in the book). We all have willfulness, which can have a darker side (Benner highlights the character of Judas, among others, and certainly the apostle Paul spoke at length about the problems of the will).Benner calls love the antidote of this dark side of willfulness. This is contained in the Lord's Prayer - how often do we say this prayer by rote recitation, rather than hearing the impact of the words. Thy kindgom come. Thy will be done. These are very different from our natural impulses, which would guide each of us to say to herself or himself, 'my will be done.' Benner says that the question is not whether to pray or not, but rather which prayer to say, and that, 'when it comes right down to it, there are really only two possible prayers that can be prayed.' My will be done, or thy will be done.Benner also introduces the spiritual practice of lectio divina, a time honoured practice that engages scripture and other spiritual classic writing with our heart, head and spirit. Approaching the scripture with open heart and mind, with an air of expectation that something new from the spirit will be revealed, is at the centre of this practice.Benner is honest in saying that the will of God does not always lead to happiness, at least not as the world perceives it. This is no 'prosperity gospel' text. Sometimes the will of God leads to the cross, as any Christian should be well aware. However, there is the consolation, the heart-felt acceptance of God's presence, that comes from the entry into this kind of process.Benner's book is a wonderful guide to the beginnings of spiritual direction. While spiritual direction is something best done in community or with a more experience person as guide, there are insights to be gained from this text about individual practices. Hopefully it will motivate the reader to continue further into discernment of where God's will lies.

Desire is basic in willing; choosing God out of desire for God. Surrendering the kingdom of self to the kingdom of God. The concept of taking up our crosses daily is graphic and emphatic. Death is the way to life! The problem is not with one finding the presence of God but being attentive to His presence by turning towards Him in centered and focused prayer. The problem is not with knowing God's will but accepting God's will. God wants to change out choosing not merely our choices. The author is very thoughtful and honest. He is aware of the contributions of others on the subject and makes good and appropriate use of the works and words of others!InBreaking Free: The Key to Empowerment, Happiness & Fulfillmentthe author also speaks of the importance of yielding to God for total healing and restoration.

This little book reinforces well a truth that will enable the reader to live in joy. Two other titles that go well with this are "Surrender to Love" and "Desiring God's Will." These three especially are in the great tradition of Brother Lawrence's "The Practice of the Presence of God." I buy these to give them away.

But it has quite a bit of I suppose "harsh truths" or fear based information at the beginning. I get the feeling if you are overweight or obese you have no chance of having a healthy/ normal child according to this woman. Or you do have a chance but it has a doom and gloom approach and the author even uses those words. I will give it a chance but it reminds me of What to Expect When you're expecting a bit...too fear based. I am interested in the recipes and again will update my review upon completion but I suggest sending a sample to your kindle to get a feel for it before purchase.

Full of fear-based "guidance" By wildflower_77 This is my first Amazon review, which I was compelled to write about this book in order to warn pregnant women out there against wasting their money on it. This book is preachy and PACKED with fearmongering about gaining too much weight. From page one, it's the sole focus. Believe me, I get it, but why do you think I bought this book? Not just to find out how I can use my diet to provide the nutrition my baby can benefit from but also to try to AVOID excessive weight gain! I highly doubt the extreme overeaters she constantly refers to in a negative, semi-threatening light are the ones reading this book, so why does she waste so much time preaching to the converted? And then, as one other reviewer mentioned, she makes it sound like if you're already overweight, you're totally screwed, and that you might as well forget having any kind of healthy pregnancy free from major health incidents for you or your baby. As someone who is already starting out with a little extra pudge (but not obese by any means), I instantly began to fear for the health and safety of my baby and my body. I didn't buy this book to feel scared and judged! Don't waste your money--I'm sure there are better books out there.

Avena, clearly states that the chapter on weight can be scary. However, there are no scare tactics frightening women into any one believe. This book is based on research and facts. The recipes are easy and delicious which is a great bonus. Do yourself a favor and get this book. The earlier the better.

By Rob Natiuk We have a lonely boy here, Andy, with no brothers or sisters, just a dog to keep him company. But then one morning he overhears his parents talk about another child coming soon. He's happy, for he will now have a friend.Some sentences need work for clarity. Loc. 11: "... they called her Princess. His parents were happy and started to give him attention too." Also, the story implies that his parents left him all alone when they took out Princess. "This was the first time he ever went out with his family." This I don't understand -- how could the parents leave a little boy alone for so long, or even a short time? The illustrations have a comfy, quiet feeling to them, contrary to the anger that Andy feels. Then the author throws in Andy's dog dying, the boy's fault of course! And Kungfu training... and a witch. This storyline just breaks apart.I don't want to discourage this author/illustration for there are some fine touches. But the plot doesn't flow logically.

About the Author

Bastien Vivès was born in 1984 in Paris. He spent his childhood drawing with his brother. His studies focused on illustration and animation at the École des Gobelins. His first title came out in 2007.

Michaël Sanlaville graduated from the Emile Cohl school, and later the Gobelins, after which he followed twin careers in animation (at the Xilam studio) and in comics with Casterman Publishers.

Balak (aka Yves Bigerel) graduated from the Gobelins School of Animation in 2006. Balak works as a storyboard artist, 2D animator, and TV show director in France. He works with Marvel Comics on the new digital Infinite Comics brand, as a storyboard artist.

By Nicola Mansfield The men are gone and Marianne takes off with Adrian across the Rift which is hidden in a heavy fog. On the other side, they arrive in Nillpolis, a place that reminds me of the Mad Max world, where the search (or "chase" of the title) goes on both for the missing Richard and from the nefarious authorities of this cruel barbarian land. This is a fast-paced volume that is entirely action-packed as they meet adversity every step of the way. Many new characters are introduced, but this seems to be an episodic adventure along the way so these characters may not return. There is an awesome battle scene at a trial as the lawyers physically fight each other! One of them looks just like Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, except about 8ft tall! This volume though brings the series to a more mature level than the previous two as both rape and prostitution are themes as well as strong language usage including the f-word. So don't be fooled by the cute cover illustration. I'm really enjoying this French manga-style series and look forward to book 4.

Adrian and his mother, Marianne, expand on the world of anachronisms and flights of fancy, in a stunning graphic novel, The Chase. As new vistas open, this book so far, has been the strongest of the three volumes in the series. A lot more character depth and mystery abounds in the pages of The Chase and the story rings more truly because of this. If only the series had started out this way.The writing is much improved over the previous two installments, and this time around the centerpiece of Marianne’s character in both her role as a mother and in the mysterious knowledge she seems to hold. The Chase after The Last Man’s Richard Aldana, whom we find is a more mysterious man than in the previous two volumes (in which he really was a cypher). It’s the simple addition of more background to their characters that make this book more enduring than the last. In fact, most of the tension arises as you don’t seem to know these characters as well as you know them now, but there seems so much more to tell. The cookie cutter characters are now finally being fleshed out while still holding on to that serial feel.The art just keeps getting better and better with each volume. Abandoned petroleum reservoirs, outlaw “police forces,” and panoramic port and cityscapes pepper the volume with panache, and even the manga-styled characters are looking more realistic (mind you that could be because I’m used to them by now). From driving across a wasteland, to a literal Kangaroo Courtroom’s antics, the action is brisk and fast paced through this artistic barrage. It seems that the artists have been saving up for this installment to deliver their punch; and it lands. The art isn’t rushed, but rather sweeps and flows to draw the reader into the page. Stylized in grey tones, you can almost imagine the colors leaping off the pages. Sound effects and word balloons are well placed and also serve well in guiding the viewer’s eye. You can hear the sounds of a port town, and it looks good.For a more sophisticated viewing of the world of The Last Man, fans of Dragonball or Dragonball Z, manga, fight comics and video game admirers, The Chase is the graphic novel in the series you don’t want to miss.

Last Man really has everything you could want from an action book. Although it hits a lot of the same notes of the genre, everything still feels fresh and new.This is the third book in the series and although I haven’t read the first two, I didn’t feel lost. It does a excellent job of explaining who the characters are, what they’ve done, and how they got here without slowing down the forward movement. There is just a lot of polished storytelling going on with this book.The city they reach is full of some of the wackiest characters I’ve read in awhile. The cops are some kind of idiotic mutant that is closer to being bandits than law enforcement. They also have a beef with the local firemen. The court of law is actually a no-holds barred wrestling match and lawyers are professional fighters. There are just so many ‘what?!’ moments in this book and you’ll love every single one.The art fits perfectly. It is both simple and complex. Cartoony and realistic. It makes this wacky world come to life and makes the unbelievable believable. It has a European vibe about it while evoking some manga influences when it comes to the action. It is also very unique and distinct. It is colored in grays, which works, but I would really love to see it in color. The simple lines almost beg for color.The books teeters on the edge of all ages. There is never anything said or shown outright that would make it adult only, but there is a brothel and the cops talk about raping. Should be okay for pre-teens, but parents may want to have a conversation with their kids either before or after.This is the perfect book for readers who want a great action story and a world that keeps expanding, but are tired of the usual superhero books.Book Received: For free from publisher in exchange for an honest reviewReviewer: Chris

The issue I have and the reason for only three stars is that the book is listed as being 80 pages in length but the actual content of the book is only about 10% of the book. The rest is ads for other books. As I said, the content is great - I just feel the description of the product is misleading.

Most pages are blank for users to fill in, organized into the stages of film production--Concept, Story, Color, Characters, and Worlds. Each section has a few pages of inspirational art by Pixar artists, but do note that this is a BLANK SKETCHBOOK.

Secondly, this book is about creating animations or sketching ideas for animated work(s). This book is EXCELLENT for those who are either in classes involving this field or who would like to practice or even have fun.If it were a book intended to have images or how to do's, then it would have a specific title or name brand toward something or someone not broadly.**Tip: If you want a book or multiple books about animated art or designs from Pixar//Disney, you can look at any book that goes toward the film(s) Example: The art of Big Hero 6 has many illustrations and design images from the production of the film, also other books such as "The art of Inside out, or The art of Wreck it Ralph"If you want to practice or have fun sketching id reccomend this book.

Make sure you look through this as its more of a creative work book and not just pages of pixar sketches. It has examples in of storyboarding, color script, character design from Pixar films and then allows you to create your own story. This book is BRILLIANT, totally worth the price and I buy multiple copies to hand out to young aspiring creatives and adult creatives. Look at this more like a creative work book with examples of true professionals.
