Hi there! My name is Serinuma Kae. I’m the kind of girl who loves checking out boys and fantasizing about them getting friendly (and more) with each other—I’m what you might call a fujoshi. One day, my beloved (yes, he’s an anime character) died, and the shock of it all was more than I could have ever prepared for! My grief over his passing resulted in some ridiculous weight-loss! And you won’t believe what happened next! Soon after my change, the four most divinely gorgeous boys in my school asked me out on dates! I accepted them all, and you’d think I’d be happy with my sudden popularity, but the truth is, my heart only yearns for a prince to be next to his prince. Ahh, yes, boys, I’d much prefer that you turn your affections elsewhere and KISS HIM, NOT ME!

Hayes Initially I was afraid this story would not be what I expect of JUNKO a tale of boys friendship through either dangerous bodyguard type friendship fun or just boys growing together as classmates or friends through the school year or more. Those are the typical JUNKO type stories that Ive come to love and enjoy so seeing JUNKO come over to the shoujo side with a main female surrounded by guys and girls was something I was not initially wanting. However, upon opening this and reading the first few pages I immediately knew I was hooked and looking for more. The characters are so well designed and thought out. It is a great comedy that presents some deep themes that fans of the genre know. Additionally it keeps the characters realistic yet fits them in to the usual characters types that we find in these types of boys love stories. I personally like Nanashima the most as the bad boy that is actually soft at heart is my favorite type. Then there is the sporty and fun character that became my second, or rather became 5 x 7 since hes perfect with Nanashima, Igarashi. All of them are fun.It is a great story overall and one that I can see last for probably one more volume. Extras included a short afterward and comic from JUNKO that was rather intriguing. There were also translation notes but most manga readers already know all the terms and references.Id say anyone pick this up for a fun and provocative story.

I’m a grown man, not a teenaged girl, and I try to stay as far away from boys’ love territory as I possibly can. I can identify with the main character of this story being an otaku, but that’s about it. I am trying to build up my manga collection, though, and that’s really the reason I plucked this book off the Vine – that and the fact that it seemed rather cute and innocent in terms of the BL component. I have to admit, though, that I did enjoy the story and actually might consider following the series a little longer. The main character only fantasizes about the boys she knows getting friendly (and her fantasies aren’t that vivid), so I can handle that. Plus, the girl’s cute.Serinuma Kae starts out as an awkward, chubby, and rather forgettable young high schooler – and serious otaku. When her all-time favorite anime character shockingly dies, she spends the next week grief-stricken. Apparently, that’s the magic formula for dramatic weight loss because the Kae who eventually emerges from her locked room is a slender cutie that immediately attracts the attention of four guys at school. Now she’s popular and dating all four guys, enjoying a new confidence that makes her game to take on challenges she would never have considered before. Of course, as much as she enjoys all of the attention from her four male pursuers, she can’t help fantasizing about the guys getting friendly with each other.Kae’s fantasies about the guys are really just a small part of the story – here in Volume 1, at least. This is more about a shy and awkward girl suddenly blossoming and gaining self-confidence without really changing who she is inside. According to Junko, the writer and illustrator, the foundation of the story is based on her own youthful experiences, and I think that gives it a sort of endearing quality. It has plenty of funny moments, as well. So, in the end, I did enjoy this first volume of Kiss Him, Not Me!

When she finally decided to return to the living, Serinuma discovered that she got skinny! The guys, who used to ignore her, now want to date her! What is a girl to do?Shoujo meets yaoi in “Kiss Him, Not Me.” I’m a yaoi and a shoujo fan and this manga does a great job in blending the two genres together. However, it definitely became the typical shoujo as the story progressed. So if you are/are not a fan of yaoi, the manga is not that. The chapters were mostly about the 4 guys trying to get in Kae’s favor. Not being used to all the attention, Kae doesn’t really understand how to deal with boy/girl relationships. She is absolutely hilarious and I totally get her – her innocence and obsession with yaoi. Well, not to the point where she was fantasizing guys together. The guys are great. Each hero is different enough that you will be rooting just for one. I’m crushing on Mutsumi-senpai. He was the only one not trying hard to win Kae’s and just being himself. My only thing would be that there is no possible way for her to lose that much weight in a week. Believe me, I’ve tried. So, I kind of feel like the mangaka make losing weight easy, when it really isn’t. Other than that, I love the whimsical artwork. The story seems promising and the first volume grabbed my attention. It was a fast read with engaging characters. Definitely looking forward to the next volume.
