8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Trick or... By Jordan I really liked this little anthology comic. It's a great concept to have the 4 different stories spanning across centuries. Though unlike the film, the isn't really a link to tie them all together, just the ominous presence of Sam. And in that, it kind of felt like a Tales from the Crypt story to me at times.A great thing about the 4 different stories is that they all have different art styles and themes, which is an awesome idea. Some of the stories are better than others but that's not to say any of it is not enjoyable. Overall, if you love Trick'r Treat, you should read this. Even if you haven't seen the film and just love Halloween, you can totally read this without watching the film at all.Overall, this is a great deal. I just wish it was longer. you can finish it relatively quickly, but it is worth reading again for sure. I especially loved the last story, where everything hits the fan. The final story has a very traditional Halloween story vibe and a great art style. If you're at all interested, pick this up for some fun Halloween reading.

Hands down my favorite Halloween movie of all time.Was super excited for this graphic novel and, honestly, I was a bit let down.These are 4 separate stories in 4 very different times. You have Seed, Corn Maiden, Echoes, and Monster Mash. My favorite was definitely Monster Mash.I don't want to dive into any of the stories to spoil anything, but there's very little reference to Sam in each of these stories which was kind of a bummer.I think if you're a hardcore fan and have to have/read everything then probably worth picking up. If not, I would try to borrow this from someone or you could even pass on this completely in my opinion.Thanks!

Definitely worth getting if you like the movie and want something that will hold you over until Michael Dougherty finally starts and releases the sequel to "Trick 'r Treat." Some of the stories were good and some were ehh. I wasn't much of a fan for the third stories writing and layout. It was confusing because the drawing style used made it hard to identify certain characters and often I would mistake some characters for the main protagonist while they were actually an antagonist. It was hard to follow and I had to do a lot of re-reading to make sure I understood what was happening and even then I wasn't sure. I think this book would have been much better if Michael Dougherty had written all of the stories, rather than have each segment written by someone else.Other than that, if you like the movie, you'll enjoy having this in your collection just for the sake of having it. It's $10 so it's not a bad price and it's a quick read.

Way too much violence (and allusions to it) to call it "inspirational" or "clean" By MrsFordy This is the third book in the series, and the last one I will read. Where I thought the first book was borderline on being salaciously violent, second one was markedly better, this third installment was just too much. The heroine is tortured by a sadist for 2 weeks, some of which is described, some alluded to in flashback, and ALL of it is disturbing. I thought the series might be getting better w the second book which had a lot LESS violence and overt references to characters wanting to rape the heroine, but this book was just over the top. As with the first two, the female is a Christian and uncompromisingly so, but the rest of the book and characters are so revolting, depraved, and graphic in their language of what they intend to do to the heroine, I just can't recommend the book, and certainly not as "inspirational." I get that the villian is a complete deviant (to put it mildly). I did NOT need to have him relay a graphic account of how he'd enjoy torturing a mother WHILE SHE IS PREGNANT. I enjoy historical fiction immensely, I understand that this isn't Regency Era England, but I wanted to take a shower after reading this book. I'm pretty sure the only reason why I finished was because I knew there'd be a happy ending, and I didn't want the images of what happened to be stuck in my head. What also caught me attention is considering the amount of suffering, abuse, and violence all of the lead characters experience in their respective feature novels, the following books, life is pure bliss as soon as they get married...and they all become caricatures essentially serving as deus ex machina to save the H/H from the latest impossible escape scenario. The author writes vividly and very descriptively... just not about the types of things I want to read about.

I read the other two in the series and although I liked elements, they weren't as strong as this story. Magpie and Rafe are my favorite characters and I don't think that was an easy fete to pull off, as initially they weren't the most interesting in my book. Rafe doesn't come across as the typical hero, and that's refreshing.I don't understand the need for such long discussions of torture and the discussions leading up to it, but the lack of showing almost any physical affection. I skimmed lots of the talk of torture, not being it was really offensive, I just didn't want to read it. It did seem overkill, as do all the conversations in the series when the brothers get together and taunt each other. But I still enjoy them.There is some definite eye rolling at how tall and muscled and wide of shoulders all the brothers are. I'm thinking a hero can still be a hero and be, you know, 5'10", but that's just a small thing. The story had plenty of twists and surprises. There was sermonizing but I just skimmed over that stuff. There are a few moments where you feel like yelling at people with the whole, "Oh my gosh, just tell them already!" And Magpie is too perfect, like saintly perfect where she doesn't seem to care that she's treated horribly, while Rafe is too imperfect. I don't like how often romance novels pull that. But again, that didn't make me like the story less. I loved the heart of the story, the unique plot line and the pacing was strong. Overall, this is a solid book. The more she writes, the better she gets. Just gimme more kisses!

Good:) By Steph Although Rafe and Magpie have been two of my favorite characters in this series, and as much as I love all of their kinfolk, I found myself both enjoying this story and feeling disappointed. It's well written and over all a good story but to be completely honest, Magpie whom I've enjoyed throughout the series, I found completely irritating and disappointing to the point of nearly wanting to not bother finishing the book. Her fun independent and kind spirit was a bit tainted by her stubborn refusal to see any sense or even try to listen to what Rafe or even her friend Isaiah had to say when all was exposed. I felt because of this and some other negatives that she undermined a lot of her loveable qualities as a character and I grew to dislike her, despite the girl I'd enjoyed in the other books.

Campbell This book comes straight from the heart, and Eric's genuine and lifelong love of the elderly is evident in each story and on every page. To watch Eric interact with the elderly is to witness a love story in action. Lacking any hint of condescension, Eric's greatest gift is his down to earth and heartfelt approach to his relationships with the elderly. Eric is completely without guile or affectation, and those seasoned with wisdom immediately feel his warmth, humor and considerable intelligence. The elderly do not suffer fools gladly, and Eric is just the personality to capture their attention, their spirits, and their affection. Nor does Eric suffer fools gladly, so the elderly are his peer group of choice. It's a perfect fit. More than his considerable intellect, kindness is the essence of Eric's lifelong love affair with the elderly. If every old person had the same kind of relationship Eric had with Aunt Olive, we would wipe out the crisis of eldercare in one loving heartbeat. The reader will enjoy absorbing this compassionate volume, and hopefully readers will emulate Eric's approach and love for the old souls in our midst. Advice you can't get anywhere else By Elmer Halstensgaard This is a first rate book about the author's observations of the elderly, but first a few words about the author. He writes in a easy to read, entertaining style. When he is not writing he sings, plays the piano, and tells stories about the elderly, mostly at nursing homes including alzheimers units. He does an occasional radio show, lecturing in general and teaching at the University. Ever the entrepreneur he entertains "snowbirds" on his working vacations in Arizona. I caught one of his shows. It was sold out but I sneaked in. It was very funny and entertaining.After his house by the swamp-as he likes to call it-in Northern MN was featured in a metropolitan newspaper, I snagged a tour by just showing up unannounced. It was magnificent. Not very politically correct but that is my way as a retired factory worker from Milwaukee.What really caught my attention in the book is how to talk to the dying or in many cases not to talk but just sit with them. The author started to form his observations of the elderly as a small child growing up in an area where their wasn't other playmates during the summer. He had a never ending line of customers coming to the nursery to interact with.You will enjoy this book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Fantastic Story Teller, Expert Gardener - Fantastic Pianist, Too. By crazy book cat I received a promotion letter for this book from Eric. I just immediately downloaded this book. I have shopped at the Bergeson Nursery. However, Eric is a great speaker and entertainer. I have heard him speak at different venues on various subjects. The most memorable was a Sunday afternoon fundraiser for local nursing homes in Grand Forks. He told very funny and endearing stories about the elderly people in his life. The stories about his great-aunt Olive were priceless. This book is an extension of those stories. You will be greatly entertained. I can't wait to dive into it. Even though I haven't read a word, I will give it five stars because I know it will be excellent like everything else he does. Too bad you can't see his Willie Nelson impersonation. Congratulations Eric!!!

It is an invaluable "go to" guide for someone whose loved one has been diagnosed or has symptoms of dementia or Alzheimer's. Baby Boomers Should Read This Book By Girdwood Girl This book is not just for those choosing a care facilities for someone else, and looking for tips on how to deal with that person's finances, medical or legal issues. Aging baby boomers should use this book as an aid in planning for their own future, and not leave it all for their families to sort out. The suggestions in the chapter on Advanced Care Directives are particularly important for everyone -- better to make these decisions while still high functioning mentally.The writing is clear; the suggestions are practical and well researched. The personal story adds interest and brings the human element to the subject. An engaging book, and not not just another "how to book" with boring lists and suggestions.

By Garon D Primmer This is one of the best books on the subject of navigating the complex and often daunting world of dementia care that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I have been in the eldercare industry for several years now and have amassed a number of different resources for my clients, most of whom have found themselves in extremely uncharted territory and who have no idea where to even begin looking for answers. This book will, for a long time to come, be right near the top of my suggested reading list.

Oh damn, I forgot! And hey, look at all those other book suggestions I can get for my shiny new Kindle Voyage! I only have 10 other books in my "to-read" list at the moment and I'll surely be done with them soon, so let me add a few more. Whoa - iPad accessories! "Just a sec, honey, I'll be right there, I PROMISE! Oh....I said that 20 minutes ago? And that was the 4th time? But I just remembered that I was going to write a review of this book about ADHD, can you give me 5 more minutes? Please?"As I read this book, I swear that at times I thought Bryan must have been spying on me all my life, the similarities were so uncanny. LOTS of genuine "Laugh Out Loud" moments as memories (some welcome, some not so much) came flooding back that illustrated his stories perfectly.It's kind of funny, because I've had another of Bryan's books, "7 Crucial Tips for Parents and Teachers of Children with ADHD" on my Kindle iPad app for a long time (I truly don't remember how long, isn't that sad/funny!?) and didn't even realize it was written by the same person until after I finished this book. I cracked up as I realized how ironic it is and perfectly illustrative of the fun "challenges" that those of us with ADD/ADHD have every day. I will actually read the other one now, because this very day, my wife is taking our 8yo daughter to begin the evaluation process to see if she's ADHD, which I strongly believe she is.Bryan - thank you so much for a wonderfully humorous book about our lives - the joys and the frustrations. Well done!

A very different appreciation for a potentially life-altering book By D W Having ADHD, I found this book very thought-provoking, transformative and I am deeply grateful that I read it - albeit for none of the obvious reasons.The author's view of Life, ADHD and Everything - and his personal experience with ADHD, at least as I read it between the lines (I have not read any of his more serious writing for a truly accurate picture), is very different than my own. So I did not feel strong identification with his symptoms as he seemed to describe them.I also have a very different taste in humor (that despite the fact that the author and I seem to share an appreciation for Monty Python) and I do not exaggerate in saying that nothing in the book amused me in any way. In fact the humor grated on me so much that at one point I found myself having to simultaneously watch old clips of Jon Stewart's Daily Show to be able to continue reading the book (yes, I do have ADHD, I am addicted to the Daily Show, and I kid you not, I am not lying to you - this is true, I had to simultaneously watch the Daily Show to be able to continue reading the book).So what did I see in this book?I have spent much of my life trying to be non-ADHD with as much willpower and denial as I have been able to muster. Even after I was diagnosed with ADHD over 6 years ago I continued to fight it head on as if I could somehow either smash it or will it away rather than accept it as a part of my reality, learn to live with it, adapt and change. As much as I have in the last two years made a good beginning at acceptance and adaptation I still have plenty of opportunity. This is where Bryan's book is helping me.Though my own ADHD symptoms seem to me to be very far-removed from some aspects of what seems to me as the caricature of ADHD presented in the book - at the same time, uncomfortably, I share far too many similarities for my own liking and ironically that's where the book's power is for me. I have read more serious books on life with ADHD that did not hold up a mirror to me as this one has - and the help this book has given me in recognizing some of my own symptoms is what I see as potentially transformational and life-altering.As much as I don't enjoy discovering and recognizing previously unsuspected ADHD behaviors - any and all discomfort is at worst temporary and it is far outweighed by the feeling of liberation and acceptance that I get when I realize that behaviors that until now have mysteriously and continually defeated me are just more symptoms of ADHD which, today I can choose to become more aware of in my personal life and learn to work around.So, I would recommend this book to anyone with ADHD - you might identify strongly, you might enjoy the humor - but even if like me you don't - if, like me, it helps you better come to terms with your symptoms then arguably this book will have been very worthwhile.

This book uses humour to describe what it is really like to have ADHD. The author's scenarios all resonate with my household - four persons with various types of ADHD. Just imagine the delicious chaos! The book describes various situations, and ways to use the strengths ADHD provides, whilst gracefully mitigating the negatives and allowing the reader to let go of any shame for not being like 'everyone else'. I found this book funny and sad. It was the perfect tool to read out loud to my two teenagers, who I see struggle so often with their ADHD. They actually listened - because the humour broke down any barriers - and then we had some great discussions.I know that we will continue to return to this book over the weeks and months and years to come. Thank you for writing this book, Mr. Hutchinson!

With a promise of snow this evening for the hills of Vermont, my attention turned to Christmas. I was delighted to find these three short stories that were entertaining and delightful and put me into the mood for the Season.The three stories are 'A Holly Spriggs' Jolly Christmas', 'Chocolate Covered Kisses' and 'Joyeaux Noelle'. My favorite of the three was 'Chocolate Covered Kisses' as that one centered around a couple that had been married for 25 years. This was their first Christmas alone as empty nesters! For me, it brought back memories of my time in the US Navy and being away from home. So, poignant and definitely tugged at my heart strings. And, a beautiful ending to this one as well.All of these short stories are worthy of five stars each. The first one illustrates the love, peace and joy of the holiday season and the hustle-bustle that sometimes catches up with us. It also ties in family traditions and exemplifies our multi-cultural friends that are common these days. The last story illustrates how happiness may be attained even when older.So, my compliments to this author and I notice she has written other books which I will check out soon.Most highly recommended for getting one ready for the holiday season. My thoughts did fast forward to Christmas this afternoon with the promise of the white and fluffy 'stuff' on the way.

These heartwarming tales will have you rooting for the characters when things get rough. Sometimes that's because of personal foibles like doing too much--a holiday challenge for most of us, Or maybe it's holding out for perfection--everything has to be just right. It could just be getting worn down by the daily grind that seems to weigh more heavily in the midst of all the holiday cheer. These are stories filled to overflowing with holiday spirit, not to mention good food, love and friendship, the recounting of fond memories, and even a puppy... Five twinkling stars!

I hate to admit it but the majority of the time I am glad when Christmas is over. With all of these thoughts in mind, and trying my best to be happy and jopyful ffor the holidays I purchased a copy of LOVE, PEACE & JOY. The three stories warmed my heart and made me look forward to Christmas in a way I have not in many years. Heartwarming and filled with kindness, compassion, and joy - if you need a mental pick me up for the holidays read this wonderful little book.

This book says "You are not alone" there are many others that feel as you feel at that moment. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Debut novel is a gem!!! By Priscilla Forsyth Martha Forsyth Haut's debut novel is a gem. Set in Southwest Missouri during the Civil War, it tells the story of those left to their own devices. Left is full of very strong women and characters so full and unique that you'd swear they are real people. After I finished reading this I thought about the characters for days and wondered what would happen to them in the future. Hopefully there will be a sequel. I highly recommend this novel for everyone.

This was her first novel, and I enjoyed it very much. I was thrilled to find out she is working on a sequel. I'm eager to see what becomes of the wonderful characters I met in Left. and see where their lives lead them.

By Balban The author provided some significant information about dating diversion and a portion of the manipulative strategies of failures. It is anything but difficult to peruse and comprehend, which gives a false representation of the fundamental many-sided quality of the material and is a demonstration of the abilities of the writer, thanks to him.It is without a doubt a decent perused and I definitely wants to recommend this book to everybody. It's truly a great informative book both for male and female.

By Klaus Mikaelson Well reading this book is not really on my top priority but I'm just curious what is in this book that will teach women about the man! Well I laugh so hard because I never thought that this book couldn't be more specific its like talking to myself and showing my weakness. The author seems to think any guy who plays lots of video games is automatically the case, and lots of girls love games too, so it's not necessarily unnattractive.Also the author slut shames men who date multiple women at the same time and never clearly explains what exactly she feels is wrong with this. If he isn't pretending to be exclusive with these girls then it isn't a problem.There is no problem as long as we are honest, which brings me to the reason I'm willing to give this book 4 stars. It clearly points out the disgusting nice guy who pretends to be nice in the hopes it will get him some pussy. Then he gets angry when girls don't have sex with him. I also like that the book says for women, "personality is everything" I live in Taiwan, and girls here have no personality, or opinions about anything. Dates with hem are extremely boring as I ask lots of fun questions they enjoy, but then hey have nothing fun to add to the interaction. It really isn't fair. Women should develop their personalities if they want to attract a quality men. Women here in Taiwan are also not feminine, so it's dissapointing.Also, this book could use some editing, but u might get a little value from it anyway.

Exploration of the community of the Maumee island elderhostel, a self-selected group of rebels, was especially appealing to me. Their foray into the alternative future their society had planned for them (doped merriment amidst ferris wheels and fireworks -- but only one year long) is not just exciting but moving, as a new resident there reflects on how she came to accept this alternative.The mid-book adventure in Paraguay, although interesting, didn't quite fit for me; thus the 4 stars..

By addressing the problem, this book has the ability to fix it. Thanks to this book, I've learned about the different characteristics of showing love that my future significant other or spouse will have incorporated into his personality; therefore, I will be able to effectively show affection the correct way according to his characteristic. Not many people are familiar with the strategies to communicate certain messages to their partners whether it is asking for something, say something that bothers them, or simply say what they feel. This book will definitely help any struggling couples, happy couples better their relationship or simply single people who pursue marital/relationship knowledge.

It’s a proof that the author herself is a pro marriage. It is well-written and very informative one. The proven steps and strategies are being presented here in order to create a lasting and fulfilling marriage. But opposite to what we envisioned before getting married, couple nowadays usually has a conflict with each other and later files complaint asking for legal separation or divorce wherein a sad thing to know.Having this book, I was well-informed on how marriage can be cultivated. Among those is effective communication between the couple, respect one another, and top most love each other dearly. If you intend to save your marriage or just be reminded of the thing need to be done in keeping the marriage alive, this book is just right for you.

After reading this book, I had never been so happy for I’m confident enough to say that there’s still hope for my marriage. I was able to identify what is lacking in our relationship and needless to say, it's intimacy. I read quite a few reasonable recommendations that I couldn’t wait to apply.

From the Author Although ordinarily a book's author would savor this spotlight, Sophia felt that she and David should share the limelight as they inspired one another to create this manuscript. The book was written by Sophia Gallagher specifically for David Cruz, her student as a para-professional at a school in Northern New Jersey. Sophia developed the rhyme in order to reach David as he had limited eye contact during his school exercises, such as being able to recount his daily activities. The book had a sing-songy rhythm that caught on quickly and soon became a favorite for them to share.The success of this first book led to Sophia developing other rhyming stories for David to navigate through difficult social situations. To see if David understood what he was reading and reciting, David was asked to draw the pages of these books. His illustrations proved that he understood the emotions discussed and led to a career as an illustrator. Sophia is the mother of 5, and also grandmother who enjoys spending time and reading to her grandchildren. She tests all her work on a live audience of her grandchildren, and amends her books as she sees their reactions. Sophia has been a para-professional for several years, and was David's one-to-one aide for 3 years at the school he last attended. She also encouraged David to play piano as they share a love of music. David draws social situations and experiences he lives through as situations that the PuppyDucks experience. He has drawn each of his family members and friends as a PuppyDuck character so that when he engages in actual situations he can illustrate the events. This exercise has helped him to better verbalize and communicate the activities he participated in.David continues to play and practice the piano and enjoys listening to a variety of music.

From the Back Cover Look At Me Look At Me was originally developed by a para-professional looking for the best way to reach a child. The student had great difficulty maintaining eye contact when being urged to discuss the day's events. Gallagher masterfully created this rhyming game for her student, David Cruz. Supported by the school speech therapist, Gallagher observed that they were on the right track to help David master eye contact during conversations. David began to illustrate the passages demonstrating that he understood what was being taught. The story is followed by a count-off game that encourages the reader to engage with someone else and maintain eye contact for as long as they can count together.The book ends with practical tips cultivated by David's mother and speech therapist. Both used these ideas when working with children to help elicit eye contact. Ruth had used them when she conducted David's early intervention program and Maura actively uses them as a speech pathologist in her sessions with students at school. Look At Me Look At Me was designed to help foster the development of eye contact in children and elicit non-verbal communication skills. A deficit in eye contact is often found in children with autism and other developmental disorders. Tested and used in a classroom, this book has been proven to cultivate eye contact in a fun way for the reader and caregiver.

The colorful Puppy Ducks encourage proper social skills while using a fun math game. Look at me is playfully written making it easy for kids to follow along while keeping them fully engaged. As a parent I love that this book gives me an opportunity to connect one on one with my children. My kids enjoyed looking at all the different Puppy Duck characters and hope to see more of them! Its a win win book for any parent looking to have fun with your child while learning!
