"Alfredo Alcala is one of the most disciplined and perceptive artists inking in comics. The years of distinguished work have earned Alfredo a special place in comics history." — Gil Kane.In the late 1960s, an extremely talented group of Filipino illustrators took the American comic book industry by storm — and the late Alfredo Alcala led the way, working for both Marvel and DC on such popular characters as Conan the Barbarian and Batman. This unique work is loaded with amazing art and pointers on observational methods, composition, and other techniques. In addition to insightful interviews with Alcala, the book features pages from his groundbreaking masterwork, Voltar, which was hailed as a new concept in comic book form, an epic in narrative art, and a milestone in sequential art illustration. Students, professionals, teachers, and fans will treasure this inspiring volume and its insider's look at comic book artistry."A wonderful look at the thought process of one of the best artist/inkers in comic book history and should be read, not just by comic book fans, but by anyone who appreciates great art." —Looking for a Good Book"A wonderful look at the thought process of one of the best artist/inkers in comic book history and should be read, not just by comic book fans, but by anyone who appreciates great art." — Rushford Public Library

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. for aspiring artists By anonymous This is a book for artists. It is straight forward and short. It doesn't get too complicated, but falls more on the lines of "gems of wisdom". The art is inspiring of course, but i think this book isn't just for the comics geek. This is about the life and attitude of being an artist. I'm sure Alfredo Alcala will inspire you. If you spend all your time in front of paper or canvas honing your craft this book is suited towards you and i'm sure you'll like it.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. the Philippino master By Michel Franck It offers an interview with a close friend of Alcala's, reviewing the advices he received from him and giving a few insights into his personality; and a small interview with Alcala Apart from diverse small examples from his works mainly before coming to America, it includes around fifteen pages from his masterwork Voltar, with his own explanations about composition. All in black and white.

Rated 4.5 of 5I remember in the 1970's being eager each month for the latest issue of The Savage Sword of Conan to be on bookseller's shelf. The black and white art in this over-sized comic book typically was much more impressive than that in the smaller color comics, and a big part of the reason for that was because of Alfredo Alcala. And so, when I saw this book was available (again), I couldn't resist getting my hands on it.First...this is not a portfolio. This is not just drawing after drawing to ogle over, though there is plenty of art inside, it's not being reproduced on a frame-able quality.Second...this book is only eighty pages long and more than a quarter of it is taken up with introductions (by Gil Kane and Roy Thomas, at least).Third..."Secrets Teachings" is a bit of a misnomer - there really aren't any secrets here, but we do get some insight into Alcala and his technique and his thought process as he develops a comic book. And this is what makes the book worth-while.Before his work on Conan, Alcala created and illustrated a series called Voltar (a clear predecessor to Conan), and this book selects one issue of Voltar and Alcala walks the reader through the entire issue, explaining his thought process to the layout of the page and for each panel and even why some things are light, some dark, etc. It was really fascinating to read how much thought goes into this from the artist's point of view.Because, when I think of Alcala's work, I think of his incredibly detailed work, I would have liked to have more insight into his actual process of inking. I did appreciate his mentioning how artists need to be able to draw (not just 'finish'), and how learning about the human body and how it reacts in different poses is important (and he gives an example of when it doesn't work).Alcala mentions using both pen and brush as tools in his art, and here again I would like to know more. I had always assumed his work (look at the drawing on the cover as pictured above) was purely pen and ink. Where and when would he use a brush?Though I still have questions about his work, I really enjoyed this book, both for the art and for what I learned. I recommend this book very highly for anyone interested in art, not just comic books.Looking for a good book? Secret Teachings of a Comic Book Master: The Art of Alfredo Alcala is a wonderful look at the thought process of one of the best artist/inkers in comic book history and should be read, not just by comic book fans but by anyone who appreciates great art.I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

A free-spirited university student, Maria’s life stretches before her like a wonderful adventure. It is New Zealand in the mid-seventies and Maria wants to make music, serve the Lord and spread her wings far beyond the safe familiarity of her homeland. Then, the unthinkable happens: a callous act resulting in an impossible choice that shapes the rest of her life. Heartbroken and in need of a miracle, Maria seeks absolution as a Carmelite nun in the dark, silent cloisters of the Palmarian Catholic Church, one of the world’s most secretive and controversial religious orders. This is the true story of one woman’s journey from the sweeping coastlines of New Zealand to the barren plains of Southern Spain, from youthful hope to deep despair, and from sin to reparation.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Raw, Honest and Intriguing By Cate Hogan I knew little about the Palmarian Church prior to reading this work, and found the insight into this secret world fascinating. But what kept me engaged was the raw honesty of the writer. The picture she paints of her small, religious family in 1970s New Zealand is both entertaining and intriguing. Some things happened 'to her', other choices she made herself---only to be left to deal with lifelong consequences. This is indeed a story of reparation, and I finished it feeling that I had a deeper understanding of the human heart, which is what I look for in a good memoir.

By Sally Patston This amazing true life story is one of the most moving personal accounts I have ever read. The writer bares her soul and takes you on a journey that seems unbelievably hard yet uplifting in a way you don’t expect. From the depths of despair she manages to see hope and reason for her life, again and again, with a remarkable touch of humour which keeps the reader fascinated and eager to continue.A great read which I found difficult to put down, this memoir would make an intriguing and heart-warming movie.

Told simply, to let the reader make up their own mind of what happened and how it happened. An insiders guide as to some of the strange practices encouraged by the church. But as the song says "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"

A YOGA MEMOIRAt thirty, Californian Leza Lowitz is single and traveling the world, which suits her just fine. Coming of age in Berkeley, California, during the sexual and feminist revolutions of the 1970s, she learned that marriage and family could wait.Or could they? When Leza moves to Japan and meets the man of her dreams, her heart opens in ways she never thought possible. But she's still an outsider, and home is far away. Rather than struggle to fit in, she opens a yoga studio and makes a home for others. Then, at forty-four, Leza and her Japanese husband seek to adopt--in a country where bloodlines are paramount and family ties are almost feudal in their cultural importance. She travels to India to work on herself and back to California to deal with her past. Something is still not complete until she learns that when you give a little love to a child, you get the whole world in return. This inspiring memoir reflects the author's deep connection to yoga and deepening quest for motherhood. Through teaching, meditation, and community, she transcends her struggles and embraces the joys of adoption and motherhood.Leza Lowitz lives in Tokyo with her husband, the writer Shogo Oketani, and their ten-year-old son. She has edited and published over seventeen books, many on Japan, and has run her own yoga studio in Tokyo for a decade. She travels throughout Japan and Asia to teach yoga and write. Her debut YA novel, Jet Black and the Ninja Wind, won the 2013-2014 Asian/Pacific American Award in Young Adult Literature.

Here Comes the Sun: A Journey to Adoption in 8 Chakras, by Leza Lowitz

Review

“A new Eat, Pray, Love”—Graceful Passages

"This is a story about forging family across dividing oceans, cultures, and self-doubts, but ultimately, “Here Comes the Sun proves that love is not bound by blood. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in that which connects us, holds us together, and makes us family.”—MC Yogi

"Here Comes The Sun is a wise and absorbing narrative of a nonconformist life. Leza Lowitz writes with spirit and clear vision. I admire the book as I admire the life." - Leonard Gardner, author of Fat City

“A forthright, articulate account of adaptation and adoption, managing the qualities of pain and join, stumbling block and resolution, to become a family... Courage and craft reveal with keen insight deeply private moments, crises, and triumphs, and give them universal relevance.”—Eugene Tarshis, the Pacific Rim Review of Books

A SPIRITUAL CLASSIC. Here Comes the Sun is a powerful message of hope for everyone facing challenges in their lives – and who doesn’t face any challenge? The author invites readers to go out of themselves to embrace others, for it is in our encounter with others that we discover who we are. When we muster the courage to face the world, we discover the beautiful home within our hearts. This is a book that will inspire, enrich, entertain, and help millions of readers on their search for meaning.—Romuald Dzemo, Youdreamawake.com

“In Lowitz’s quest for harmony and beauty—the story of a mother, told by a poet through the self-examination of a yogi—she discovers that where there is fear there can be no love, and where there is a victim there can be no enlightenment. I fell in love with everyone in this memoir of a woman wanting to be loved and to love. This is an intimate, brilliant, beautiful offering.”—Sharon Gannon, Jivamukti Yoga

"The story of how this American Samurai’s kept her tender heart open in the face of continued obstacles will inspire every yogi who has ever forgotten to take refuge in their practice. Full of beauty and joy and truth and goodness and courage, this is a love story and a yoga page-turner."—Cyndi Lee, author, May I Be Happy: A Memoir of Love, Yoga, and Changing My Mind

"Here Comes The Sun is completely captivating. Leza Lowitz offers many gifts in this very personal narrative, including absolute candor about her journey to create a family in Japan against great odds. Lowitz writes with verve and insight and shows us what it’s like to forge a full and glorious life in another country, though not without trials that test her remarkable spirit. I truly relished every page."—Elizabeth McKenzie, author of Stop That Girl and The Portable Veblen

“We think we know where babies come from, but do we know how a mother is born? Here Comes the Sun is a wise and compelling story of becoming a mother by opening your heart. Warm, luminous and healing.”—Karen Maezen Miller, author of Momma Zen: Walking the Crooked Path of Motherhood

“A poignant, inspirational and moving ‘Made in Japan’ love story that demonstrates the power of persistence and never giving up on your dreams.”—Wendy Tokunaga, author of Love in Translation

“In this beautiful and moving memoir, Leza Lowitz captures the ache we all have for love, and how the purest search can take us to unexpected corners of the earth. Her story had so much for women of our age to relate to, and I cheered as I read of her search for a child—the spirit of the child she karmically knew was out there waiting for her, a spirit which did not give up—and neither did she. I loved the romance, and her depiction of a couple’s life lived across two countries, and the founding of her yoga studio—Lowitz is a pioneer. As I read, I re-examined my own life, and I finished her beautiful book determined to try to live with the same spirit of honesty, and with a goal toward meeting the demands the outer and inner worlds place upon us. I was deeply moved by Lowitz’s effort to continue to search for so many different kinds of truths.”—Marie Mutsuki Mockett, author of Where the Dead Pause and the Japanese Say Good-Bye

"Lowitz's adoption of Japan’s mothering customs, coupled with values from her own Jewish background, make Here Comes The Sun a wise, fascinating, and deeply intelligent read. "—Liane Wakabayashi, writer & creator of The Genesis Way: Making Art Through Intuition

"Japan is a country where the cherished old ways are being shaken and sifted. Instead of blind obedience to social mores, young people are now asking "Why?" Yet releasing outdated social mores will result in a weakening of society and individuals if there is nothing to put in their place. Leza Lowitz and her husband Shogo offer something: the impetus of heartfelt desire and the personal courage to carry it through. An inspiring story to all, Japanese and otherwise, who contemplate "bucking the system" -- teaching us that love and joy are our companions on that hard road."—Rebecca Otowa, author of At Home in Japan: A Foreign Woman's Journey of Discovery

"Before reading Leza Lowitz’s memoir Here Comes The Sun, I knew nothing about yoga. But her engaging writing hooked me: Now, I’m intrigued. What I do know about is adoption. And the story of how Leza opened her heart to become mother to her son touched me deeply."—Jessica O’Dwyer, author of Mamalita: An Adoption Memoir

"This is a book about opening—opening the body, the mind, the heart. Opening to possibility. To wonder. To forgiveness. To love. The sunlight Leza Lowitz creates in these pages is like a smile that glints deep inside the ribcage, then spreads and spreads until it can’t help but radiate out of every cell."—Gayle Brandeis, author of Fruitflesh: Seeds of Inspiration for Women Who Write

Here Comes the Sun is about self-realization. The overwhelming emotion one feels while reading is joy. The struggles, the set-backs and disappointments are no match for the undercurrent of hope which remains with Lowitz throughout her story….Unfailingly optimistic."—Kyoto Journal (August 2015, Sophelia Lee)

“Reading Here Comes the Sun is like a breath of fresh beach air: clean, invigorating and hopeful as the horizon.—The Japan Times

Fueled by Lowitz's deep connection to the yoga process, Here Comes the Sun offers a warm story not of idealistic new age thinking; but of a life in transition, and how this succeeds in transforming other lives in the process of pursuing motherhood—D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

"Here Comes the Sun conveys how with persistence, perseverance and patience, seemingly impossible hurdles in Japan can be overcome."—JQ Magazine

Leza Lowitz takes us on a real life journey of a California girl living, working, and building her own family in Japan. Like every hero, she is challenged on her quest. Every time she is told no, she finds a new path to "yes". It is a story of two cultures blending, and of a mothers' love that exists through time. Lowitz's writing is sparse in the best of ways, powerful. There are no wasted words on this personal journey, no incessant self -reflection that one can find in memoir writing. Instead, the writing moves along like the adventure story it is. Compelling and beautiful!Good for readers interested in memoir, yoga, parenting, adoption, Japan, California, living in multiple cultures, empowerment and love.

I was not only entranced by the story of Lowitz’ search for meaning and motherhood, I was inspired. Inspired to be a better person and a better mother, and inspired to look inside myself and within my practices for answers and strength. In particular, her trials and successes in Japan struck a chord with me as I also have lived, worked and mothered in Japan and know how difficult it is to adjust to another culture. The descriptions of Lowitz’ family and community in Tokyo are one of the highlights of this book.Lowitz’ journey is artfully juxtaposed with the chakras. In the past, when I’d see the names of chakras, I used to think of them as something more difficult to understand, something completely foreign and unattainable. But Lowitz’ graceful writing interweaves the chakras into her narrative, shedding light on their meaning and rendering them more intimate and attainable. For yogis in particular, Lowitz’ journey gives many clues for applying the principles of yoga during difficult times. Not only does she bring yoga techniques to everyday life—as in when she breathes into difficult or painful situations—but she brings the spirit of yoga into her interaction with others, particularly shown in her ability to learn to open her heart to family members. At some point, you are not sure what is yoga and what is not, but perhaps that’s as it should be! I’d recommend this book to all, but in particular, to mothers, yogis and anyone who has ever searched for meaning.

From start to finish, I could not put it down - and I’m not even a mother or ever felt that burning desire to become one. But I have always been curious about women who do - and wanted to understand what it feels like to have that yearning.Lowitz’s story and the way she writes enabled me to feel like I had slipped into her skin, into her inner and outer worlds as though I were taking this journey with her.I hung on every word - her writing sparse, honest, raw, action oriented, and sprinkled liberally with insights and teachings beyond mind and ego.Lowitz is not afraid to be vulnerable, sharing her fears and struggles with us. It is so easy to love her! At the same time, we see her strength, power and fierceness as she encounters and overcomes obstacles, one after the other. At the end of this nail-biting memoir, (what a surprise!), I stepped back into my own skin, moved and changed. Not only did I feel so deeply her yearning, heart-aches, fierceness and passion on her way to becoming a mother, but I came to recognize the energy of the divine Mother within myself and the different ways that energy expresses itself in my own life. This is a gift. Here comes the sun!

By Peggy Price This book gives a clear picture of the most important things that one should learn about dating. The wonderful thing about the book is that it is a personal account of many of the lessons learned by the author which were passed down by her father. It is a refreshing approach to dating. I believe that Amity the author, has written this book not only from personal experience but from her heart. I would recommend this book for anyone faced with the challenges of dating. Also, the amazing thing about the book is that she used many of these ideas on her journey before marriage as well. So, they are tried and true ideas. You will not be disappointed when you read this great little book on dating!!!

It is a fun ebook that reads more like a conversation with a friend than a " how to" book . However, the " how to's " are there in the form of practical tips given mostly through real life examples. The tips are straight forward and could easily be implemented into your dating game plan. I love the fact that this book is written by a daughter who was wise enough to take her Fathers advice. I plan on passing this advice onto my daughters.

It was easy to read and I love the connection with the author and her Father. I think it's great to get both a female and male perspective on the subject. I've been married for 20 years, but found it a fun read for me. My friend hasn't finished the book, but says she already has a new game plan when she decides she's ready to re-enter the dating scene!

The final chapter of Jim Henson's The Creation Myths Trilogy.BRIAN FROUD, legendary conceptual designer of the beloved Jim Henson fantasy film THE DARK CRYSTAL, returns to the world he helped create in this stunning conclusion of the official prequel to original movie. The world of Thra is shattered. Following the events of The Great Conjunction, the once-powerful Urskeks have been split into two separate beings: the Skeksis and the Mystics. Only Raunip and Aughra know their true origins, but they are trapped in the bowels of the world of Thra, searching for the shard of the Dark Crystal. But as the aftermath of the Great Conjunction wreaks havoc upon the Gelfling tribes, the Geflings may have no choice but to rely upon the one race offering aid: the Skeksis. The species of Thra will have to decide who they can trust if they hope to keep their world together. Written by Matthew Dow Smith (Doctor Who, X-Files) and gorgeously illustrated by Alex Sheikman (Robotika) and Lizzy John (Fraggle Rock), this third volume is the epic conclusion to the Creation Myths saga. This volume features behind the scenes photos and concept sketches from the Jim Henson Company Archives documenting how creature and puppet designs that never made it into the film were adapted and brought to life on the page.

By Amazon Customer I you have any love in your heart for Dark Crystal, this and the previous two creation myth books are must have. They tell the tale of how the crystal was cracked and the origin of the dual beings that were split in two because of it. They also tell the story of Ogra (sp?). Brian Froud does a brilliant job of fleshing out the origin of his magical world. I would recommend these to anyone that loved the movie.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very much worth the wait! By Harmony Hilton Absolutely fantastic piece, which we have come to expect from this series. The artwork is top notch, the writing is wonderful and the world itself that Brian Froud (and the legendary Jim Henson) has built is nothing short of brilliant. This is the 3rd (and I believe final) installment of this particular series and just like the preceding 2 volumes this book is worth every penny. There have been delays with just about each book, but the wait was always worth it. I can only hope that this is not the last release from Brian Froud and Archaia, but if it is I am thankful to at least have these 3 books.10/10

1 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A very disappointing conclusion By SF-Expert SPOILERS:Part 1 and 2 have shown the history that led to the plot of the film. Many questions were answered, especially in Part 2. I liked it very much.So it would be logical to assume that part 3 answered any of the remaining outstanding issues, for example. :- Who wrote the prophecy?- How did the Skeksis create their Garthim soldiers?- How did the Skeksis create their crystal bats?- How the Gelflings were enslaved?- How were Jen and Kira saved?- How did the Skeksis rebuilt their castle?Instead, they dished out a story in Part 3, which actually has nothing to do with the film:The villages of Podlings and Gelflings are being attacked by a new race, the Miners. But even this story is unsatisfactory because many ends are open. Also, it amazes me why the miners are depicted as giants. The original dolls were relatively small, maybe the same size as the Gelflings. On the positive side I have to mention the coloring. The colors are very well done and add a lot to the little detailed drawings .The background informations at the end of the book are also good, especially the 2 never before seen photos of the Miner creatures. So, storywise this was a very disappointing conclusion.

Promise Denied: A Madison Mystery, by Susan Church

About the Author Retirement from a long career in education left Susan with many possibilities for how to occupy her leisure time. While ballroom dancing, travel, reading, walking, music and theater were enough to fill the days, a persistent question nagged at this avid reader of mystery novels: Could she write one herself? Answering that question has been a long process of unlearning the skills of academic writing and nurturing the craft of fiction. Promise Denied is the first of her creations to reach publication, but readers can expect to see more of Roberta, her family, Betty, Swenson, and Chase and meet some new faces. Now that Susan has conjured up this cast of characters, she's curious to know where they will lead her next. There is no shortage of intriguing story lines to explore in the chaotic world of the 1960s. A sequel to Promise Denied is in the works. A dual citizen of the United States and Canada, Susan was born in New York City, grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and has lived and worked in Nova Scotia for many years.

Sherlin Without many mentors or good examples of what marriage can be like if you work at it, it can be hard to discern where to turn when the honeymoon phase ends. This book is a great help for anyone that wants to improve, strengthen, and even repair their marriage. I signed up to review this book because I really wanted some more insight into my own marriage and ways to make it better. This book is written from a woman's perspective with an intro by her husband., Sue is not biased and is very transparent in her own challenges as a wife. Ironically my husband received this book in the mail today from his business coach.Sue shares with us 9 traits that you need to come to terms with in order to have a successful marriage. Acceptance, Friendship, Safety, Honesty, Intimacy, Passion, Endurance, Restoration and Expectancy. Each chapter covers a trait by sharing personal stories, practical applications, and scripture to help bring insight to help understand how we get into and out of unhealthy behaviors. This book challenges you to look inward before moving forward.Sue also reminds us not to compare our marriages with others. (A trap we all too often fall into in an age of social media where things aren't always what they seem)This is a great read for anyone looking to stay married!

I thought the title was perfect- as the book really did deliver on its' promise. 9 Traits of a Life Giving Marriage was a straightforward and honest look at what it takes for a Christian marriage to thrive. I appreciated the vulnerability shown throughout the pages, along with Sue's willingness to share personal stories from her own marriage- the good and the bad. We can learn from each other, and this book had the tone of a wise, older sister, sharing her wisdom out of love, with a desire to see marriages succeed. Each trait has a chapter devoted to explaining the why and how behind it, with practical applications and stories from Sue's own marriage to illustrate. Each chapter closes with a prayer for your marriage. This is a book that acknowledges the need for Christ to be the center of a life- filled marriage. I would recommend this book to newly married couples, as well as those married for many years, healthy marriages, and those that are struggling.

All traits are important but the one that spoke the most to me is Endurance.Sue writes: “The stress of life can push our emotions and our relationships to the breaking point. Well-placed faith fuels our endurance. But please know, this race isn’t about survival; it’s about experiencing God’s best for your marriage.”If you can relate to stress in marriage for any reason, this book is for you. Learn to experience God’s best for your marriage.Sue also writes: “Rather than burying stress or pretending it doesn’t exist, a better tactic is acknowledging it and looking to God as our source of relief and endurance.”I highly recommend Sue's book and hope that by reading it you too will “embrace the bitter sweetness of endurance.”

Winter, 1211. Former abbess Helewise moves back to her cell near Hawkenlye Abbey to help the needy, putting a strain on her relationship with Sir Josse D'Acquin, who is called to examine the bodies of three men, one of whom bears a complicated symbol carved into his chest: a symbol that signifies vengeance. This series is finished By Paulo de Vissec This series - as pointed out by at least one other reviewer - has completely lost direction, and credibility. The plots now are far from being believable in the context of European Middle Ages. It's a pity: while in the beginning of the series there were nice historical fiction books - even if they had a touch of fantasy - it's difficult now to define the genre of the more recent books. Not only that. The plot in this particular book, The Song of the Nightingale, is confusing and very uninteresting. I would have given it zero stars, if that was possible.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good historical novels By Debs I have enjoyed these novels ever since the first one about ten years ago. I really enjoy the developing relationship of the main characters, and the addition of the next generation. Since Eleaor of Aquitaine is my favorite historical figure (and ancestress) I enjoy Helewise's connection with her. The forest people are just fanciful enough without going overboard. There have been some great stories in this series, including this one.

White I thought the series ended with the last book so I was very happily surprised to see a new one on my recommended page...it doesn't disappoint, and in fact, found it as compelling and wonderful as the other books in the series...what a treat to be able to revisit these characters....enjoy!

13 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Disorganized with some disappointing absences, but still a lot of fun. By Sean Henry On the plus side, this book covers many, many great Marvel characters. The layouts for the individual entries are great, with quality illustrations, pretty concise synopses of character histories, and in general a decent explanation of each character's powers and abilities. The two-page spreads of important storylines are especially well done. The layout of the book is a mess, however. Entries are broken down into six broad categories of character abilities (one section is for Avengers and villains with powers, one is for the technologically enhanced, one for magical characters, etc.) That's an unusual enough choice, but even within those categories, entries are thrown in a very haphazard order. For something billing itself an "encyclopedia" there's no easy way to reference an entry for a particular character without flipping back to the index every single time (and the index is so full even that is not a quick reference.)My biggest complaint is the missing characters. There has been internet gossip that the comics publishing wing of Marvel have been deliberately downplaying the roles of the characters from the X-Men and the Fantastic Four because of Marvel films lack of the cinematic rights to these characters. I understand that these characters are all property of a huge corporation that can manage their brand however they see fit. Regardless, it is very disappointing to have an "Avengers Encyclopedia" that has entries for obscure characters such as Silverclaw and Grandmaster, or a full eight pages dedicated to Hank Pym, and no entry whatsoever for prominent Avengers like Beast, Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, or The Thing. (These characters are not completely ignored - they appear in illustrations and are mentioned as part of other character bios or storylines; they are simply not given their own entries, which is still ridiculous.)All told, it is a nice volume with a good balance of information about a wide variety of characters. Perhaps future volumes will be better organized and more comprehensive.
