Many folks in the South are called by two names like Bobby Jo Sally Jane or John Mark thatï ½s just the way things are. How important are names? We label everything in our lives with names. In school we learn that the names of people places and things are known as proper nouns. Proper nouns pretty much describe all that surrounds us as we walk through life.

Two twins separated at birth get to meet one another when they are nearing adulthood and the spirit of togetherness and solidarity they have for one another is so sweet. One twin suffers from a congenital disease that the author spends considerable effort to help us understand the condition as well as giving her readers a glimpse into how this young girl and boy are determined to go on with their lives and persevere no matter what. It is heartening and heartwarming to read this story.

Hollins Loved the book for our first book club reading.I chose it because the author is from Waco which is where I reside. I thought I may have chosen a book meant for teens once we started reading but after finishing the book we adults thoroughly enjoyed the book.We also got to meet the author, took pictures with her, and got the book signed at our first book club meeting. It worked out perfectly!

Pueblo Indians don't use pottery wheels for their pottery, and a person just couldn't go out, buy a pottery wheel and create a pot worthy of gift-giving on the first try. Most disturbing for me was the inclusion of Marfan's Syndrome which, in the book, appears curable through an operation and medicine. My family has several family members with Marfan's and it is very serious: a 60-year-old man on a walker because his ankles can't hold him up (after surviving a heart aneurism), a thirty-something mother of three who suffered a nervous breakdown last fall because she is going blind (which threatens her engineer/computer expert position), and a young 9 year old girl developing scoliosis. Eight other family members are awaiting how the disease will manifest itself in their lives; they must have their heart checked annually by a cardiologist. I have another friend with Marfan's who had her tubes tied so she wouldn't pass on devastating effects to any offspring, and adopted children instead. An NBA basketball player retired this year when he got a diagnosis of Marfan's. It's curious that Marfan's would be such a big part of the beginning of this book and then fade into the background except for a seeming love story between two young people who both have it. It's so much more than "long, beautiful fingers" and is The Elephant in the Room in my family. I would never include it in a book for entertainment. The book is sweet. I can't thoroughly recommend it, though, because I think it promotes misinformation.
