About the Author Hiro Mashima was born in Nagano, Japan on May 3, 1977. He created RAVE for Weekly Shonen magazine in 1998 when he was just 21 years old, and in 4 short years the series has already spawned 18 volumes, 3 guide books, a hit anime series, 2 console video games, merchandise, and has been licensed around the world. Mashima-san is quite fond of his hair (he cuts it himself and constantly changes its color). He hates caterpillars (don't ask why) and any that get in his path are just asking to be squashed. Oh yeah, and his blood type is B.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fun Being the Keyword By Grant Alvarez People who complain about things like poor character development and the like (which I disagree with, but digressing), probably haven't read enough shounen manga. The point of a story like Fairy Tail this is not the twists it takes (admittedly this volume doesn't offer the amazing revelation in the following one), but seeing cool attacks in cool fights. Hiro Mashima knows how to draw action, and when we see Natsu's fire blazing and Lucy assuming Star Dress and kicking ass, it looks great. The characters may not be particularly developed, but I don't think that's the point. The point is to find them enjoyable, and to like watching them.
