Kristi Neace gives practical ideas to strengthen Law Enforcement marriages By Suzy Parish Kristi Neace offers an unflinching view of the state of Law Enforcement marriages and then gives practical ideas to strengthen them. She uses anecdotes from her own marriage to underscore problems peculiar to Law Enforcement families.Kristi doesn't leave us with a feeling of helplessness, she offers hope to LE families that the glue that now holds her marriage together will work for them.My LEO husband retired as an investigator after serving in our local police department for 26 years.I found the back and forth scenarios that Kristi painted between LEO husbands and their wives to be spot on. She relates the husband's brain processing to the compartments of a waffle, and the wife's as a maze of spaghetti noodles. The visual picture that painted for me made me laugh, and at the same time underscored how communication is sometimes messy between spouses.I would strongly suggest both spouses read a chapter a week, then have a date night to discuss and implement the suggestions at the end of each chapter.Kristi Neace is a sought after author and speaker, and a pioneer in ministry to law enforcement families. In 2010, Kristi founded Badge of Hope Ministries, a 501(c)3, and has since made it her mission to fight for marriage and encourage those who have been affected by the stresses caused by law enforcement life. She and her husband, SRO Rick Neace, their three grown children and grandson reside in Missouri.Kristi was instrumental in ministering directly to the officers of Ferguson, Missouri during the riots of 2014.

By Amazon Customer My husband and I have been married for 8 1/2 years and he has been in law enforcement for 11. I've always felt I had a little better understanding than some of the other LEO wives about what he went through because I worked dispatch for 3 years early in our marriage. Recently things have been tough and we separated. There are so many little things I forgot about what he goes through and this book hits the nail on the head about the affects the job has had on our marriage. We are still separated for now, but reconciliation looks to be in the VERY VERY near future. I credit this book and Kristi Neace with much of the way I've handled things the past week or so (it's easily a very quick read) and how I will approach our marriage differently in the future. I will give this book as a wedding gift from now on to any of our LEO friends that get married. I've also already recommended this book to a friend that is having some of the same issues with her LEO.UPDATE: He's moved back home and we are actively working to strengthen our marriage. Again, I credit this book for a lot of my mindset!Thank you, Kristi!

About 10 years ago be was offered a position in law enforcement. He is a Sgt on third shift working every weekend and has been on this shift for almost his entire career. This book was a refresher for the both of us as well as a reminder to us on all of the things that we are doing right for our marriage. He is my best friend and my life and the things we have found as the glue for us is God and time together. It's vital that we remember we were a couple before the kids. It's so easy to let your life take control over you- you have to take control of your life.

Life is a completely lawful experience because of the universal laws of reincarnation and karma that draw individuals together. Rather than being some type of unavoidable destiny or a fate about which we can do very little, the Edgar Cayce material instead sees karma as essentially an unconscious reservoir of information stored within the soul's memory. Although this memory may draw certain events and individuals to one another, personal free will and the way in which an individual responds to that memory determines her or his actual life experiences.

Drawing upon contemporary family relationships, as well as family relationships for individuals who received guidance from Edgar Cayce, this insightful volume examines the activities of reincarnation and karma, especially as they play out in the dynamics of family relationships. All individuals are brought together within their respective families as a means of learning specific lessons and having opportunities for personal soul growth. In addition to examining the universal laws of reincarnation and karma, this book illustrates the lawfulness of life, the exacting nature of individual responsibility, and the ever-present hopefulness of personal free will.

In the end, Edgar Cayce on Reincarnation and Family Karma makes an enormous contribution to demonstrating that life is a completely lawful experience, that individuals can overcome whatever "karmic lessons" they seem to be faced with, that free will is completely free, and that God is truly as fair and as loving as we have always wished for our Creator to be.

Todeschi's Work By Lindy Thompson While looking for something inspirational to read, I came across this new publication of Edgar Cayce on Reincarnation and Family Karma by Kevin Todeschi. I am always drawn to the Edgar Cayce materials but was a little disappointed when I saw that it was about reincarnation and karma. I felt that these subjects were so 80's and that I really had moved beyond them. For me, reincarnation is now simultaneous incarnations that cross-connect with parallel lives. And karma is nothing more than a self-imposed life theme that will be balanced accordingly. As I have read most if not all of Todeschi's works, I was interested to see how he handled this. I was well-rewarded! Todeschi brought to light how I meshed together the 80's thought to the present day realization. It gave me lots of food for my inspirational needs by going back to revisit some old ideas seen in a new light. I think it is not only a wonderful read for those just getting into the reincarnation idea and for those of us who thought we had moved beyond reincarnation. Once again I was pleased with how Todeschi brought new insights to an age old topic.

This book has been a big help in understanding my problems with various family members. It has helped me to know that I have to release the anger and forgive past mistakes that I can't remember so that I don't keep repeating this insane arguing. It isn't easy but he tells case history that easily relates to problems you may be having with people. Understanding whay may have happened in a previous circumstance will help you end the conflict. Good study and reference material.

By Barry Owens Whether you believe in reincarnation and karma or not, this is a good book to use as a primer to explain them both. I found myself highlighting like crazy. Edgar Cayce was a Christian mystic who helped literally thousands of people with his ability to read the Akashic Records and give advice to people regarding the questions that they asked of him. This book deals specifically with reincarnation and karma as it relates to family relationships. I know it makes me wonder about my own family karmic relationships. Wish Cayce was still around so I could ask him for a reading.

I thought it was excellent!!!!This book was a quick read. So real and inspiring, it kept me very interested, and it’s exactly how I live my life. If I had children, not only would I show them by my example, I would recommend this book to them if they were having relationship challenges.I hope to see more books by this author very soon.

By Mike (Review via http://epicbookquest.com)Breaking up is hard to do, but this book can help!In this wonderful self-help book & CD, Sue Coleman offers women 9 simple rules to end and avoid “loser” relationships.Written from the heart, Coleman’s advice to women in the dating scene is simple, yet very powerful. In the midst of a bad relationship, it can be hard to take an emotional step back and assess the situation. This book helps women do just that, while at the same time reminding them to respect and love themselves.Coleman stresses the importance of the awareness of which “deal-breaker” behaviors are simply not acceptable in a relationship, as well as having a solid foundation in your life through a personal relationship with God.Breaking Up is an excellent book, especially relevant for young women today. A brief read at only 96 pages (108 including the lyric sheets), it’s absolutely packed full of sage advice, helpful anecdotes, and real-life examples from the author’s own relationship mistakes. The book also gives women a wake-up call- forcing them to take a close, hard look at their relationships, past and present, to recognize and learn from their own mistakes. I also found many of the rules to be relevant to other types of relationships as well, from workplace relationships to friendships (let’s just say I could have used this book in high school). Each chapter of the book covers one of Coleman’s 9 “rules” and ends with an action summary and relevant song title and verse so you can pop the accompanying CD into your player and rock out while you read :-) The songs vary in style from rock to pop to blues, so no matter your genre of preference there’s a song for you! There were many things I really enjoyed about this book- mostly the fact that the author chose to focus, not on attaining a “perfect” relationship, but to encourage women to love and respect themselves, pray often, and think long and hard about what really matters in a relationship. Bottom line, this is an excellent book to help women recognize what a healthy relationship is (and is not), how to avoid getting drawn into a bad relationship, and how to break it off if you’re already there. An inspiring and worthwhile read, highly recommended!Rating: 4 starsI received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It would have saved me so much heartache and guilt. It would have saved me all those moments when I felt like the relationship had gone wrong because I didn't give enough. No, as this book points out sometimes relationships go wrong purely as you are with the wrong person.Sue Coleman writes in a style that makes it like listening to your best friend giving you a heap of good advice. Her advice is spot on, and can help you see relationships in the right light instead of a fairy tale light.Yet, this book isn't a man bashing book. it also gives the woman plenty of room for thought about what she can change to improve her relationships.I love this book! It is the type of book that is set in reality, and takes on the rose coloured glasses of love.Relationships do need work, but it is a two way thing! The accompanying CD is also fantastic. She has a fantastic voice, and I would actually pay to hear her sing.

From the Heart of An Abandoned Daughter is about the trauma of family violence. It highlights the inner struggle of the author’s childhood attempt to cope with a terrorizing father and a mother who was so focused on survival that she had to block her own feelings and, consequently, disconnect from her children, leaving them to feel emotionally abandoned rather than protected. Without passing judgment on her parents, Helen tells the story of what happened and how she coped by creating strategies for survival that then became crippling patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving in her adult life. She explains these patterns and offers resources for personal change. This book helps women who grew up with family violence understand its effects on their adult lives, find hope for healing, and feel empowered to re-write their own life narrative.

Stolze I'm only halfway through, but my compassion is raised for all the family members caught in this trap of recurring abuse, especially the young and most innocent. Gennari's courageous story of her victory over her traumatic childhood convinces us that we can overcome our own perhaps less horrendous childhood challenges. Beautifully written. Hope we get more.

By Lin This painfully candid book about the torment and long-term emotional scars of growing up the eldest child in an abusive family will hit home for so many adults. If you grew up with an alcoholic, addicted, or psychologically troubled parent(s), you know the deep emptiness and hurt that linger for a lifetime, as it did with Helen Gennari. Her book tells of both the early journey of loneliness and her passage through that dark time to ultimately find peace. I highly recommend this book to all who have either grown up in such a home or are close to someone who did!

Graber, PhD Although I have known Helen Coleman Gennari for a long time as a spiritual friend, I had no idea that her earlier life had been so difficult and painful due to family violence and emotional abandonment. Reading about her process of healing and becoming the person I now know, one can only view her transformation as a spiritual evolution in consciousness: A touching example for all who face similar trauma and want to transcend it.

Neither Jessica Stout nor her father, Walter Horak, set out to publish this book, both authors wishing foremost and forevermore that there had never been a reason. Yet love for a little boy compelled them. FEEL ME BRAVE began as a blog by Jessica to keep her family and friends abreast of her young son's struggle with an incurable disease. But the power of her prose-unflinchingly honest, piercingly insightful, and on occasion startlingly humorous-settled deeply into the hearts of people following Ryland Stout's journey. Caught up in the same struggle, Walter began to write poetry as he groped for a way to express a grief that tormented his entire family, even as each day brought them closer to that inevitable moment of parting. Over time, the idea took hold to merge the words of father and daughter into unique, shared testimony. And readers urged that it find a wide audience, especially those facing serious life challenges or simply contemplating its difficult mysteries. The result is this remarkable book, a "treasure" in Dr. Ira Byock's estimation. Heartbreaking and uplifting in equal measure, FEEL ME BRAVE invites you to open your own heart and to dwell a while within those deep places that make us all more fully human.

Unconditional love and resiliance in the midst of tragedy make this a can't-put-down read By M.Boericke The moving journal entries, heartfelt poems and striking artwork make Feel Me Brave a book you will be unable to put down. Here, in beautifully wrought poetry and prose, is the heartbreaking story of one family’s journey coming to grips with the ultimate nightmare. Even those who are not parents will find they are better off for having faced and read this tale: for although the content is unthinkably sad, the reader will find herself transported by the grace, the resilience and the sheer power of unconditional love conveyed so perfectly throughout the book.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Rare Melding of Talents By Kathleen DeJardin This book is a rare melding of talents: Jessica Stout, for her ability to strip down the elements of sorrow and create beautifully poignant prose, and Walter Horak, her father, for his ability to bare his soul and convey a universe of emotion in the carefully selected words of his poetry. Will you be able to put it down? Possibly. The emotions and insights are so very vivid and true that you may need some time to process all that you are feeling. But you will finish the book. And its impact will never leave you.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Will take your breath away but give you inspiration to live more fully and joyfully. By Sarah As they bear witness to the excruciating experience of caring for a dying child, Jessica and her father honor the joy-filled, brave heart of Ryland. Their words and artwork glow with the purest love. So many anecdotes, descriptions, poems, and images throughout the collection cut to the bone because they must, it seems, in order to bare for readers the core of courage. Anyone who has lost a loved one, who faces imminent loss, or who fears such loss needs to read these journal entries and poems which, together with the stunning drawings, will take your breath away but give you the inspiration to live more fully and joyfully. Jessica's prose is probing and graceful as she lays bare her deepest suffering, shares acute observations, and searches for connections and solace in the natural world. Walter's poems and drawings-- themselves simply stunning in their emotional testament of a grandfather's love--seem to be engaged in a tender dance with the journal entries, and the love of father for daughter echoes and supports the undying love of mother for son. I cannot say enough, or perhaps say the right things, about this collection, but it has changed my life and very likely will alter yours.

Any child will know when she’s loved unconditionally. And every child should be entitled to a nurturing environment and love—but this is not what always happens. In 1943, Anna Townsend, at the age of six weeks, is adopted by a couple who is unable to have children of their own. With her pretty red curls, the little infant has no way of knowing she’s been adopted for the wrong reasons: Vera wants the status that “being a mother” will bring her among family, neighbors, and friends. Her husband, Alf, is enchanted with the pretty little child. However, his fatherly affection will prove the undoing of their father/daughter relationship because Vera is unwilling to share love or attention with the little girl they have named Glenda. Follow Glenda Taylor’s account of struggle for survival in a story of societal expectations that is also a case study in parenting. After enduring nineteen years of bullying, she leaves home to begin a new life. Building on skills from school, she hones her secretarial talents working for a major tobacco company in England. Her resiliency blossoms, and she accepts a position abroad for two years before immigrating to the United States, where she works for a prestigious legal firm in San Francisco. In her mid-forties, she finds her niche as a compliance officer in northern Arizona, investigating civil rights complaints in employment and public accommodation and establishing a mediation program. In 1994, she relocates to southern Arizona and finishes her career working in human resources. She currently lives in Tucson, Arizona. Her life story—at times poignant, sometimes uplifting examples of the human spirit and others heartbreaking accounts of pain and loss—are woven into a compelling story of triumph and survival.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Survive and Thrive By Ethel Lee-Miller Life with a Maternal Bully moved me deeply. This is no ‘fluff novel.’ It portrays a real life story of what happens with neglected children who are raised by a single parent or parents who are themselves neglected or abused. The writing is strong stuff that can stir up old memories. I think this book will resonate with many readers who, like the main character, “survived and thrived.”The book is testimony to the many lonely, abused women who experienced the double whammy of a culture that ignores at the least, and is misogynous at the most, toward women. Mothers suffered and passed on the poisonous pedagogy. Fathers passively allowed it to happen. It took grit, determination and those "angels" sent to the main character’s life to help her move beyond the negative messages and gaps of her childhood. This particular journey seemed all the more lonely with the added component of being ancestrally rudderless. An adopted child who has no knowledge of her background. I felt sorry for that little girl who only wanted what everyone wants–to be listened to, loved, and accepted. "Survive and thrive" is the hope of this book. Stay with it to see an accomplished, feisty, funny, strong woman emerge into owning her “self.” Brava, Glenda Taylor!Ethel Lee-Miller Tucson AZ

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. and to go on to create a happy and productive life By Caryn Wood As a friend of Glenda’s who knows her to be kind, confident, and self-assured, this memoir illustrates that many times we don’t know the adversity, hardships or the journey taken by others. It is a tribute to Glenda that she was able to remove herself from the cruelty, find the strength to not be permanently affected by negativity, and to go on to create a happy and productive life. I hope this book becomes a resource recommended by social workers and counselors, as it provides strong inspiration to young women who find themselves in similar bullying situations. Kudos to Glenda Taylor.

By Georgia Brousseau This writer quickly captures interest in the book through her excellent choices of phrasing, descriptions, and events. Yet, it was not a quick read. Had to keep putting it down because of the emotional reactions to the events. Although not purely chronological in structure, this memoir builds a clear portrait of a time, WWWII, the societal pressures on a woman and a girl, and the working world of a young single career woman by choice. Taylor is effective in describing the emotional conflicts of trying to have a loving relationship with a mother who knows not how to love a child.

I don't know if I can outright recommend this to everyone By Khuntley Having read this with Convergence, I don't know if I can outright recommend this to everyone. The collection is two issues for each series, essentially glimpses into these worlds cordoned off from the Convergence. I mainly picked this up due to the 90's Superbly story. You also get some Catwoman, Green Arrow and such thrown in. Its nice for nostalgia, but an average reader will probably be lost, or won't care about these versions of the characters.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not a needed read, but can be fun in small doses. By Shawn Winigman I picked up the companion books to the Convergence event to hopefully learn more about the upcoming DC titles that will spin out of the event. What I got was more in line with a book similar to DC vs. Marvel. Each story is told in two issues. The first issue traditionally giving a quick view of how the main character(s) are coping with the dome, followed by the second issue where combat occurs between the main character(s) and character(s) from other timelines/cities from other domes. Each book has followed a formula that has been relatively consistent.1) Main character(s) seen 1 year into living under the dome, functioning without powers.2) Entity that captured character(s) spends multiple panels giving a speech (identical to speech in Convergence when domes lifted).3) Main character(s) (traditionally) questions morality of destroying another city to preserve theirs.4) Other city attacks main character(s).5) Either the fight stops opting to be friends or someone is defeated leaving the main character(s) city ok.The one part I like about these books is seeing old characters or fringe characters again that haven’t been seen in decades. I just wish they weren’t so predictable and really gave us better background or development of the characters (there is a section in the end that gives a small explanation of the main character(s)).

Elysian Dreams: Volume Two of Crescent City, by Jack Caldwell

About the Author Jack Caldwell is an author, amateur historian, professional economic developer, playwright, and like many Cajuns, a darn good cook. Born and raised in the Bayou County of Louisiana, Jack and his wife, Barbara, are Hurricane Katrina victims who now make the Suncoast of Florida their home. Jack is the author of four Jane Austen-themed books. PEMBERLEY RANCH is a retelling of Pride & Prejudice set in Reconstruction Texas. THE THREE COLONELS: JANE AUSTEN’S FIGHTING MEN is a sequel to Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility. MR. DARCY CAME TO DINNER and THE COMPANION OF HIS FUTURE LIFE are Pride & Prejudice-flavored farces. In 2015, he released a series of historical novels about New Orleans, titled THE CRESCENT CITY SERIES. THE PLAINS OF CHALMETTE begins the series, commemorating the Bicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans. He marks the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with three modern novels: BOURBON STREET NIGHTS, ELYSIAN DREAMS, and RUIN AND RENEWAL. When not writing or traveling with Barbara, Jack attempts to play golf. A devout convert to Roman Catholicism, Jack is married with three grown sons. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Love stories form the first volume continue, tension builds up towards Hurricane Katrina's attack By noagnes It's difficult to review the middle volume of a 3-volume series (for those who haven't read Bourbon Street Nights, the first volume, do it now - I highly recommend it!). The story of the previously introduced heroines and their love interests continues, and by the end of this volume Elizabeth and Marianne find healing from the past in a happy and committed, gradually deepening relationship. Emma and George's story explores the difficulties that living with an invalid father (true to Jane Austen's setup at the end of her novel Emma) realistically means and the contrast between having a demanding job of a heart surgeon and his wife staying home can cause in a marriage. The villains from Book 1 also continue as they began, Wickham the drug-dealing sociopath and Waguespack the weak opportunist drug consumer continue to wreak havoc in the life of our protagonists. Through the daily life of the characters a we experience details of everyday life in New Orleans, with lots of culinary descriptions and music. Meanwhile, through brief descriptions of tropical storm formation, monitoring and forecast, and damages by storms prior to 2005, the tension builds up towards what we know will happen: the arrival of the monster named Katrina. This dramatic event, however, is reserved for Volume 3, apparently - along with the villains getting their due punishments and our dear couples' final settling down, after, hopefully, they all survive the impending catastrophe. The many threads of the story, the number of primary and secondary heroines/heroes that the book follows make the progress of this book perhaps somewhat disjointed, but Jane Austen fans will like the adaptation of her characters into modern day New Orleans and will enjoy discovering cameo characters that are tributes to her work. I admit that this story made me long to someday discover New Orleans even though I live on another continent. For those who are interested in this piece of info, this book contains a lot more sexual scenes, not very graphic but explicit, than Book 1. The criminal elements also feature some violence, but these are only a few scenes.I look forward to read Volume 3!

I thoroughly enjoyed his story of Will and Lizzy. We know they are supposed to be together, and I really appreciated the storylines that get them there. I like that he is giving us history of his beloved city as he was writing this story. I really want to go back to New Orleans and visit it as a native. Another hit, Jack Caldwell.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A love letter of a different sort By Tart Jane Austen's characters wrote some of the greatest love letters in all of literature and Jack Caldwell has written a love letter to New Orleans and to Jane's characters with this terrific saga. I am so glad it has been published and I don't know how I will manage the month until Volume 3 is released.

An interdisciplinary effort of scholars from history, women’s studies, and family and consumer sciences, Remaking Home Economics covers the field’s history of opening career opportunities for women and responding to domestic and social issues. Calls to “bring back home economics” miss the point that it never went away, say Sharon Y. Nickols and Gwen Kay—home economics has been remaking itself, in study and practice, for more than a century. These new essays, relevant for a variety of fields—history, women’s studies, STEM, and family and consumer sciences itself—take both current and historical perspectives on defining issues including home economics philosophy, social responsibility, and public outreach; food and clothing; gender and race in career settings; and challenges to the field’s identity and continuity. Home economics history offers a rich case study for exploring common ground between the broader culture and this highly gendered profession. This volume describes the resourcefulness of past scholars and professionals who negotiated with cultural and institutional constraints to produce their work, as well as the innovations of contemporary practitioners who continue to change the profession, including its name and identity. The widespread urge to reclaim domestic skills, along with a continual need for fresh ways to address obesity, elder abuse, household debt, and other national problems affirms the field’s vitality and relevance. This volume will foster dialogue both inside and outside the academy about the changes that have remade (and are remaking) family and consumer sciences.Contributors: Elizabeth L. Andress, Rima D.
