4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Marvel sells you the same story 2x to increase their profits By Frank L. Greenagel Jr. Fan-boys (and fan-girls) tend to hate it when I give 1, 2 and 3-star reviews of books they love. These people are a real problem, because they gobble up whatever Marvel (and DC) put out, regardless of the quality. The quality of the stories here are fine, but issues 25-26 are part of the "Black Vortex" storyline that spans 5 or 6 different titles (which is available in another, complete trade). Readers are faced with either (a) only understanding 2 of the 5 issues in this story or (b) redundantly purchasing these issues 2x when buying the Black Vortex trade, which is a win for Marvel but a loss for the consumer. The trade opens up with the Guardians Annual (shout out to the annuals of the 70's and 80's), which is a one-shot tale of a Skrull War follow up. Nick Fury shows up. No more spoilers. It's fine, but nothing special. You could die without reading it.There is some good dialogue and a few jokes that are quite enjoyable. Still, the fact that this is largely part of the Black Vortex story without being complete, is awfully irritating.A note that I'll address more in my Black Vortex review but will touch upon here:(a) it gets annoying to continually see our heroes get excessive powers and then argue over the ethics of using the powers.(b) it is also annoying that the message here is that power always corrupts. it's a tired theme in superhero storylines(c) enough with smashing the liquid container that houses the Supreme Intelligence. I've seen it happen at least 4x in my life now

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Nothing special By Spidey The book contains a stand alone annual (drawn by Frank Cho!) that's a little odd. The Guardians come across a helicarrier in space and the story turns into a variation on a ghost pirates story from there. The next 2 issues are part of the Black Mirror crossover. You should skip those 2 issues and read the crossover instead. The last 2 issues deal with Pete becoming the President of Spartax. The stories are solid, you can never really go wrong with a Bendis book. However, I fell his writing has lost a little something since shifting from the Avengers books to X-Men and Guardians.
