Best read by parents in the first trimester or before that By Shawlpony It would have been nice if the authors updated it for the 2000's, or even the 90's to show new data on the study they did. As you can see from the cover picture, not much has changed since the original edition came out. Still, I bought the ebook hoping it would give me some information to help stimulate my baby's brain. I read it on my 6th month of pregnancy-- which seems it's too late. The ideal time to buy this book is in the first trimester, before the baby starts kicking. You basically want to anticipate the baby's quickening and then push down on the mother's abdomen to elicit a response. This teaches the baby to think "hey when I kick over here, there's a pressure response or sound from mom or dad's voice that I get. I wonder what happens if I kick over there or kick twice or stop kicking". It becomes a give and take between outside the womb and inside the womb. Some parents in the book reported babies being able to follow the pressure patterns in a circle as the baby learns to follow the motions of pressing. For me it was too late in my 6th month. The program given is best initiated as soon as quickening is felt. Even though there are instructions for late starters, I got a response from my baby that she didn't like the gentle pushing down I was doing when I tried out the program on her, so I stopped.
